I Favor The Princess

Chapter 1

*Azki Pov

My mother and father used to tell me stories about how thirteen brave knights teamed up to save the princess of the kingdom from a great calamity that threatened to destroy everything.

I never believed those stories because they ended with the thirteen knights being encased in stone to eventually break out when the descendent of that great princess needed them.

I hate the kingdom they were selfish only thinking for themselves. I am only a commoner in their eyes I was just a fly that they wanted to get rid of. I am a demon child. Despite this I was forced to work for the royal family.

Our family needed money, so I decided to start taking jobs. I was forced to become the retainer for the Tokino family princess, Sora.

Today was my first day meeting her and I was dreading every minute of it. All I could do was imagine what she would look like.

I imagined a proper woman with long silky brown hair. She would have sharp looking eyes filled with hate and malice towards me. I was expecting to feel an ominous aura from her.

I was treated like a criminal, having to be patted down to see if I had any weapons on hand. Then I had to follow an escort to the princess Sora's quarters.

"This is so stupid..." I mumbled under my breath that we live in a world of magic, yet they expected me to have something like a dagger on me. How frivolous.

"Commoner, we won't pay you until you finish all the work assigned to you, understand?" The escort asked he was treating me like a child, as if I didn't understand english all of a sudden. I nodded in contempt.

"You know, this job is important. I can't believe the king appointed a commoner to do this and not one of the knights." My escort scowled. He was getting more and more annoying by the minute.

"The king seems to be a smart man." I sighed under my breath. Unfortunately, I was heard by the escort and was slammed against the wall.

"Shut up, you realize letting someone like you in is a danger to the kingdom; commoners are all disgusting pigs," the man snarled, finally letting go when he saw my face didn't change.

I was disgusted. Why do all nobles and royals have to act like snobby bastards? I couldn't wait to get this job over with. The princess was going to be the worst of them all. Since she was the soon to be ruler, I'm sure they've taught her how to look down on the people suffering in poverty.

I was severely underdressed compared to everyone here and I was definitely the least well-kempt. My family couldn't afford clothes like theirs. That's why I was forced to take this job. Any extra coin would severely benefit us.

"If you so much as touch our princess, we will make sure that you and your family will be apprehended!" The man said confidently.

"If I can't touch her, then I can't do my job efficiently." I retorted, clearly upsetting the man.

"Quit being a smart-ass..." he growls.

"By the way, what is your name?" I asked since it was odd that he hadn't introduced himself to me.

"If you must know, commoner, I'm Daidou Shinove," the man mumbled while adjusting his blue glasses.

I wanted nothing more than to shatter those glasses in his face. He was acting like he was better than me when he is just a pathetic loser hired by the king to run some errands. He clearly was jealous of me and my position.

I began to think about it more and started to question why did Princess Sora request a female caretaker? Maybe because she wouldn't be comfortable with a man, but there are definitely more qualified woman in the vicinity than some random commoner.
