He holds my lifeless body in his arms as a waterfall of glistening tears cascade down his face. "Did it really have to come to this?" He whimpers, knowing that the wounds he endured would mean nothing. He holds me into his chest while it all slowly fades away.

Chapter one
Greenery and gut ache

My Name is Rhodus, but you can call me Rhode. I'm an average student studying media and like most, regretting it. Like many others my age, I daydream about finding love while contemplating if life will satisfy my dreams and ambitions, I mean are you really satisfied with an average life? I know I'm not. Anyway, let's get to the story. It all started during the summer holidays of 2023.

Rhode opened their eyes to be met by the warm-toned light of the sun breaking through the gaps in the blinds. Seeing the dust twinkle in the light sparked some inspiration for a photography project they have been working on, the concept this conjured was beauty in pain. They put on a light jumper along with some ripped jeans and rushed out of the house, skipping breakfast like always. They ponder down at their phone before choosing the song all is soft in side by aurora.

While on the bus into the city center, they examine the camera they have just managed to buy. A sense of accomplishment fell over them as they remembered the long labor-inducing month filled with overtime and saving they had to do to get this equipment. This was shortly followed by the dread of if this is how much I must do for a little camera, and how will I afford anything while maintaining a work healthy environment. They decided not to focus on their fears as they were nearing their stop anyway.

They followed the museum that the bus stopped at to find the scaffolding in between the historic buildings before taking a few shots; Walking all over the town to find the perfect mix of beauty and ugly to create the interesting images they had thought up hours before. While standing on a street corner examining their meticulous work, a tall, dark-haired, man with deep fire burnt eyes that perfectly contrasted the paleness of his skin rushed around the corner knocking the camera out of their hands. A sense of panic overcame them as they reached down to find it destroyed.

"Oh, I am so sorry i-" the man spoke, his deep voice bouncing around Rhode's head as they try to fight off the panic. The man lost his words when he saw the tears in Rhode's eyes form.

"My camera, it- how," Rhode muttered their voice breaking as their breathing became uneven and hasty.

"Hey. Look at me, don't worry I will replace it." The man spoke the voice once again reverberating in Rhode's mind.

"It cost so much," Rhode cried "Are you sure you can?"

"Of course. I'm a man of my word." The man spoke making Rhode's face shine a small smile. For some reason, Rhode trusted this man.

"Have you eaten lunch yet?" He asked his eyes piercing through Rhode as they got a sense of nervousness and excitement.

"I haven't eaten at all today." They reply their breathing evening out.

"Let me take you out," The man offers "it can be my apology."

"I would love to but..." Rhode cut off their sentence as an idea popped into their head.

"But?" He questioned.

"I'm meeting with my friends soon and I don't have time today, how about we exchange socials or numbers whatever you prefer?" Rhode spoke with excitement thinking they are a mastermind.
