The sound of footsteps soon turned to the sound of splashing water. The knight waded through puddles and puddles of glistening water, following behind his animal friends.
The further they trekked, the more difficult each step became. The moist and muddy ground under the water acted as glue to their feet. Nevertheless they trudged on. The stoat of course, rested safely atop the foxes head
The knight noticed droplets falling from the sky. A bad time for rain, he thought. He looked up and to his surprise not a cloud in sight, but not a sky either. What he saw was instead a reflection of himself. He waved his arm and his reflection in the sky mimicked him.
He whistled for the fox. The fox tilted his head and sat down. His tail was dimmer than usual. Droplets began to fall more frequently. At first, the knight tried to poke his reflection. He then tried jumping to see if he could cause a ripple in the sky. As he landed, droplets fell in quantities. He looked to the ground and saw his reflection again, and the reflection of his reflection in the sky, approaching. It got closer, and closer. The knight felt a wet touch at the top of his head, and looked up.
Now only a few feet away from him was the false sky. He stared at himself, knowing that a watery grave was not far away. He picked up his feet and started sprinting. The fox now followed behind him. The watery sky now consumed the top of his head.
Without a warning the sky then came crashing down. Instead of sinking, the knight began floating upwards. He saw the fox attempting to swim downwards. The stoat wrapped around the foxes neck, keeping a sturdy grip that wasn't too strong. The knight started swimming downwards as well.
He felt his arms break the surface of the bottom of the false sky. He reached out one arm towards the fox and managed to get a grip on its tail. He then kicked his legs as hard as he could which sent them flying out of the water. They fell for only a few seconds before landing on the muddy ground. They pushed them selves back to their feet and paws. The stoat released his grip, and shook off the water.
The knight now out of breath, sat down to rest. The fox trodded towards him, and laid down beside him. The stoat squirmed off the foxes head, and burrowed himself under the foxes belly. The dimly lit light that still shined from the foxes tail, slowly faded away. The knight now peered into the true night sky. He wondered if he was truly going to survive out here, in a world of which he was so ignorant of, it could now consume him whole.
