I sat on the couch of the pack house's common room, my mind spinning. I looked down at my hands which were holding Lucifer's dagger, the one I thought had taken Orpheus's life, staring at the beams of light moving around inside the black diamond embedded into it's pommel.
"So... Orpheus is... inside this thing?" I asked, just to clarify some of the more absurd points of of Theo's theory.
"Well no, not exactly. His soul was absorbed into the j ewel. You see all those lights? All of them are the aura of souls whose owners were killed with it, and then uses their power to make the wielder stronger. You see, this was Lucifer's plan, to kill you and Shade with this dagger. With the power of your souls he could have easily sliced through the cuffs binding him to hell."
Chase and Zack who where sitting next to me looked how I felt, dazed.
"So... what do you need me for?" I questioned.
Theo pulled a withered black book from his bag. In gold letter on the front was it said "Ancient tales of the dark and demented"
"There is a legend surrounding this dagger. It's about the Mythica who created and the dagger and a man who owned it." He cleared his throat and began to read: "Once upon a time-"
"Maybe you should just give us the summary. " I butted in.
"Hey, I wanted to hear a story!" said Chase, disappointed.
"Fine." said Theo, closing the book. "So, this story is set in the times when the Mythica were still alive, but were dying off. One of them decided to host a competition. Beings from all over our world entered and fought in brutal battle and conquered deadly challenges until one remained. In the story he is referred to as "The Victor". The Victor went to the Mythica and demanded his prize. The Mythica took The Victor's knife and shield. He turned to the shield and said "May this shield protect every loved one it's owner has, and may it grow stronger with every life it saves.' Then he turned to knife and said "May this knife kill every enemy it's owner has, and may it grow stronger with every life it takes." He then turned to The Victor and asked him to choose a prize, and obviously he choose the knife. He went home to his village and found his nemesis, the man who had stolen his wife, and killed him. Word travelled fast about the power the knife posed and reached the ears of Nightshade Pack, number one in the rankings of that time. They attacked, tearing the village to shreds just because they could. The Victor fought bravely, but the knife wasn't powerful enough yet. His wife, who knew this took the knife and stubbed herself with it. Her brave and her self-sacrificing soul gave the knife the aura it needed to finish of the entire pack. The Victor took knife back to The Mythica and begged him to bring back his wife. The Mythica took it in his hands and said " If this knife is brought to The Tree Of Life and layed down with an Angel Crystal, a golden apple from the Orchids of Aeternitas, nine Truth Lilies, a riderless dragon egg and a loved childhood possession of the one you wish to return , then one soul may be recalled to the land of the living. So he searched all his life for all the stated item but he couldn't do it. In his dying days he said to the Mythica, "you've tricked me! It cant be done." And the Mythica said, "It is you who have tricked yourself, thinking that you could have her back. She chose to leave you, and if you had chosen to protect her, instead of letting your own feelings get in the way, she would be living today. And then the The Victor died, and the story ends."
"But Theo" I said. "It's about teaching a lesson. If the guy in the story died before getting all of the stuff, what make you think we could?"
"Because you're a Mythica! You can do anything!" he voiced, desperately.
I really did want to save Orpheus and the hopeful gleam in Theo's eye was filling me with hope, too.
"Ok. Were do we start?"
***So it begins again! Thanks for joining me and Aurora on this new venture. Its been a while and some of probably won't return, but to those of you who held on hope, thank you! How do you think this new quest will play out?
