Nice to meet you fellow weirdo! Or not, I'm unsure. All I know is that's what I am.
I'm Katie Mitchell and I have been known as "the weirdo" from a young age. I like to make movies and really hope one day I can achieve that dream and no longer be called 'the weirdo' or 'oddball'. I have red hair, and I'm not very nice looking. The only people who have been there for me really are my little brother Aaron, and my best friend (Y/n) Wildflower Diaz. Aaron, he's also a weirdo. We have so much in common, but only because either I'm immature or he and I are just two weirdo siblings. I mean, he's 8 and I'm 18. Ten years apart shouldn't be so bad.
"Hi would you like to talk to me about dinosaurs?" Aaron asked into the phone. The person on the other end was obviously confused, giving Aaron a negative response. "No, okay thank you."
Then there's (Y/n). She has always been there for me and to be honest, but not in a rude way, she's weird too. I've always found her attractive for who she is, but I'm still figuring myself out. Actually, my parents haven't figured me out yet either. What am I? Who am I? How am I? Weird? I wish I was normal like every other family on my block. Of course (Y/n) always reminds me that she isn't normal here either. She is one of the only Spanish speaking people on our street.
She is teaching me how to speak Spanish, and honestly it isn't going too well...
"No, Katie, it's EE. The Y makes the E sound." (Y/n) told me in a parental tone almost.
"Eh?" I asked, repeating the sound the letter E makes in English. She shook her head."EE." She said once again. I blinked, tilting my head and staring into her (e/c) eyes.
"And this means 'And' in Spanish?" She nodded at my question.
I'm still trying to figure it all out. I actually enjoy learning it with her. She would be my only Spanish teacher. My dad and mom have actually grown to treat (Y/n) as their own child as well. I wouldn't mind having (Y/n) a part of my family. She would be the shy, younger sister who knows more than you think and has a super hard punch. You see, she's a shy sweetheart to me, but (Y/n) also told me she has always wanted to embrace her smarter side. I am pretty surprised she told me first. But then again, she tells me everything. She told me her parents are abusive, her first celebrity crush, and how she hates being so short. But I tell her she's so lucky. Me, I'm just a thin hot dog with nothing to show. She's got all these curves and is honestly really hot. I blush while saying that because while trying to figure myself out, I figured out that I really like her too. Not like she would though. I mean look at me. As I told you, skinny hot dogs usually don't get lovely compliments or girlfriends.
Yeah, so, you pretty much know what I think about everyone in my family, and my only best friend. By the way, my only best friend is THE BEST best friend. And this story is actually how she, um, became a part of our family.
Well, I was sleeping. Or I just had my eyes closed really, trying to sleep, when (Y/n) called. I picked up the phone and I heard her on the other end. She sounded in a hurry. What was going on. Worry immediately bottled in my stomach, but I refused to show it. "What the crap, (Y/n)?" I asked, checking the clock beside my table. I also yawn. "It's four in the morning."
"I'm coming over." I drop my clock as I hear those words, blushing a little. She makes another breath as I speak.
"Now?!" I ask, trying to not wake up my family. "I-I mean," I pause for a second, stuttering. "I'm not complaining but why?!" I hear her breath hitch.
"Because, I'm finally getting away from my abusive parents." She tells me in a quieter tone, as if her parents were right behind her or something. I immediately hurry down the stairs to wait for her.
"O-Okay!" I tell her, worriedly frowning, but happy she's coming and getting out of that nonsense. "I'm awake and ready for you." It's like I can hear her beautiful smile on the other end.
"Thanks, you're the best friend ever, Katie." As she hangs up, I hum. I didn't just want to be her best friend though. I wanted something more. I couldn't just burst out all my feelings, I'd definitely be weird if I did that. No, it'd take time.
As I said before, I really do like her super much. Aaron knows. I tell him everything. I don't tell him deep secrets like how (Y/n) has abusive parents but, I told him that (Y/n) just has a rough life. He understood that a secret stays a secret.I continue peeking out the window, and when she rushes over, we make eye contact. I blush when she runs inside and hugs me, but she doesn't seem to notice. "Katie!" She cheers silently.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so glad you got away from there!" I tell her, my exclamation staying quiet though. I look into her eyes and it's almost like she's had a huge weight removed from her. I hear her breaths raise as my mom arrives behind us.
"Katie? (Y/n)?" The lights are suddenly turned on. Uh, Mom!
"Uh, Mom, there's an explanation for this." I began to say, (Y/n) shying away and staying behind me. It shows she feels safe with me. "You see, (Y/n)'s parents are abusive so she ran away to our house." I dare not to look at her, knowing she wanted me to keep that a secret.
"I'm sorry for waking you up, Mrs. Mitchell." (Y/n) begins to apologize. I soon feel guilty, and I see it in my mothers eyes too. "If you'd like me to leave, I can." She suddenly starts walking towards the door. Without thinking, I put my hand on her shoulder. She looks at me in a confused manner.
"No, you can't go back there." I say, turning to my mom. "Ma?" I ask using only one word. My mom understands.
"You can stay for the night sweetie, I have no problems." She tells us, and I see (Y/n)'s eyes twinkle as I cheer inwardly.
"Sleepover?" She asks. Heck yes!
"Sleepover!" I return in an almost playful manner. YES! TONIGHT WAS GONNA BE GREAT!
