"I swear to you Y/n that if you don't hurry to put him down, you don't want to know what I will do to you after!"

Scaramouche sounded extremely serious as he said that. You quickly complied, not wanting to upset him any more than he already was. The old merchant was running towards the exit, desperately wanting to leave our room. It was stupid of him to think he had any chance of resisting. Without much effort, you caught him and punched him in the sternum. Breathless, he fell to his knees in front of you. Your superior arrived shortly after and stood behind him with an authoritative air. The man turned to him, ready to put his hands together in a plea, but before he could say a word you pulled his hair back and placed an old dagger to his throat. He started crying profusely while your heart rate began to quicken.

Scaramouche dropped to one knee to look at the man with a sadistic grin.

"There's no point running around you dirty rat, you're at our mercy now. Did you think you could afford to play with us like this? Not only do you decide to falsify your reimbursement at the northern bank and you also try to flee. You are screwed.

"Have mercy, I did this for my family! My debt kept us from living properly, and my daughter was so sick!"

"Seems like a you problem. You have to be stupid to try to steal from the Fatui."

Scaramouche continued to look at him without an ounce of pity. He looked up at you.

"What do you think Y/n? Should we give him a second chance?"

He didn't ask your opinion, it was just a way of playing for him. But you shook your head no while pulling harder at the merchant's hair. He was crying harder.

"So I thought. Well, my dear old man, you have won a free trip to Snezhnaya, where you will work forcibly on our behalf! You wanted to take care of your family? Well, you will not see them again until to have fully paid your debt, which makes you a total of eleven years of work! Isn't that wonderful?"

With these words, you released the merchant in tears, and other soldiers came to pick him up to take him away. Discreetly, you pulled out your inhaler to use it. Your heartbeat slowly calmed down and your mind became less fuzzy. Scaramouche dropped his malevolent smile and finally sighed. He got up and approached you, visibly annoyed.

"Next time, make sure he doesn't run away so easily. I don't have time to play hide and seek with insects."

You gave a low bow, reluctantly.

"Forgive me, it won't happen again."

He looked at you for a long time, then resumed his usual expression.

"You know, that old wreckage looked a bit like your father."

The remark made you shudder with disgust, but you didn't let it show.

"Except he won't spend a single mora on his kid!"

You stayed silent. He didn't need to make the comparison, he had seen that you had been rougher with the man than you usually were and how much you rushed to put him down. Seeing that you didn't answer, he shrugged his shoulders and walked towards our camp while you were following him quietly. Several soldiers watched you pass, their gaze was fearful. You couldn't blame them though.

You made people talk about you when you joined the fatui. There were a lot of rumors circulating about how your parents have been cruelly murdered by you and how good you must have been to have the highest position among the fatui except for the Harbingers. But you weren't interested in these rumors, you had work to do, and being the only officer working for the Balladeer was not easy at all. On your arrival, you had been surprised to note the few officers and sergeants in Scaramouche's division. He had indeed dismissed the majority for "uselessness". You were both relieved that you didn't have to cooperate with many people, and terrified that you were alone to endure Scaramouche's meanness all day long. Finally, after a few months, you realized that they had almost no effect on you, and it seemed to annoy him.
