corey haim's point of view
"this is just to re-center and ground yourself. you know how this goes, right? they did this with you in massachusetts?"
"mm-hmm." i mumble a response to the kid who looks way too young to be working such a job.
he's geeky, beyond geeky. skinny, black, round glasses sitting on the bridge of his nose as he reads over the paper in front of him. his hair is a buttery blonde, straight, and falling into a part that reminds me of leonardo dicaprio's haircut in titanic—the 'jack dawson' hair cut.
and to make matters worse, this guy introduced himself to me as, dawson.
i wanted to laugh and call up kennedy, tell her what a coincidence that is, and then suggest we watch titanic again.
but then my heart sank.
it's funny how the brain has momentary lapses of forgetting things, like how my brain forgot for 0.002 seconds that i haven't spoken to kennedy in four years.
"what year is it?" dawson asks me the first question off the list that makes me roll my eyes.
"2023." i answer.
"and how long have you been here? in this time?" he asks.
"since 2019, four years." these questions and answers are like second nature to me, grilled into my brain from how many times sev had to ask me them at the massachusetts base.
"where have you been these last four years?"
"cooped up in massachusetts." i sigh.
"do you know where you are now?"
"fucking nevada." my tone of voice is detached as my eyes travel around the square room.
i flew in 2 days ago and barely talked to anyone up until now. i had to go through processing, as they like to call it, but really it's just a whole lot of threatening from authority personnel.
this is how things are gonna work and this is what we're gonna do, if you fail to comply, we have no problem hurting you, and or killing you, that's pretty much what i was told on loop for the past 48 hours.
"what is your full name?" dawson asks, his baby blue eyes peering over the rims of his eye glasses.
"corey ian haim."
"what'd you do there?" he furrows his eyebrows, pointing to his own cheek, but he's talking about mine.
"you think i managed to bruise my own cheek?"
he shrugs his shoulders.
"serum guy back in massachusetts had a temper."
"serum guy?" dawson raises an eyebrow, amused with my choice of words.
