It was a chilly yet calm and quiet night. The onyx sky was painted in pitch black as the shining stars lit up the surface across the shady clouds. Muffled sounds of crickets chirping outside the window, hidden in the tall grass.

Everyone else had gone to their rooms and rested for tonight. As for our beloved and hardworking leader, Commander, stayed up to finish some paperwork and careful planning of a new strategy for their next combat on the battlefield tomorrow.

Commander blinked, his tired eyes couldn't stop blinking, and he couldn't keep them open for even just 5 seconds. He placed his pen down, he let out a soft yawn as he rubbed his eyes. He knew he was exhausted but he needed to prepare as soon and much as possible. He picked up his feathered pen once again and returned to writing, he wrote with elegant handwriting, written in fresh black ink.

Brief footsteps can be heard outside the door, it grew louder as the door knob turned and clicked open. Meeting the familiar presence of, you know who, DJ! A wide grin would spread across his face as soon as he saw Commander.

"Heya, Com!" He exclaimed blatantly with a loud tone, his excitement couldn't be contained as he was forgetting the fact that others were asleep.

The leader would hush him and gestured to him to be quiet, giving glares at the DJ. "Oops, sorry.. heh." The DJ would quietly apologize as he closed the door behind him before walking over to the commander's desk.

"Hello, DJ." Commander greeted dully, his voice became noticeably exhausted and weak since he was staying up with work. DJ already took notice of the Commander's sluggish movements and odd quietness. He could see how much effort the leader tries to remain awake and stable.

DJ stared with concern through his yellow visors, he spoke, "Isn't it getting a bit late, Com? Maybe you can continue the rest of this work another time, you look like you need some rest."

Commander turned his focus onto the DJ standing before him, looking up to find a friendly smile on his face. Commander scoffed lightly, "Just give me a bit more time, I'm almost done. You should go get some rest." He diverted his gaze to his work, gesturing for the DJ to shoo and go off.

"I'm not leaving until you finally decide to rest up. Besides.. can't really bring myself to sleep anyways." DJ would drag an extra chair he found from the corner of the room, moving it near the leader's desk as he sat down on the seat and laid back, easing.

The commander eyed him, "Do whatever you want." He muttered as he continued to work. "Alrighty, then."

DJ would observe him the entire time as he worked, the awkward staring and the oddly quiet atmosphere made the leader pressured since he usually doesn't want to be bothered while he does his work, especially when being stared at. Commander tries his best to not let DJ's eyes on him get him distracted.

"Y'know, Com. This is getting a lil' awkward for ya, isn't it? Sorry about that." DJ spoke up as he chuckled, Commander's face lit up in surprise as he averted his gaze away from the charming DJ, scoffing.

"I guess." The leader answered. DJ would sigh, "Yeah understandable, same here. Say.. how about we have chat? How about we lighten the mood with a little fun talk, y'know?"

He pointed out before adding, "I'm sure you'd want this to be less awkward than it is. And.. we haven't got to talk a lot since we've been busy about the whole apocalypse mess we're paid to deal with."

Commander hummed in response, "True." He would place his pen down as he rubbed his eyes once more.

"Just wanted to make sure we get through it. I don't want us to lose again and.." He let out an exasperated sigh before proceeding,

"Almost dying." He tilted his head down, frowning. He was disappointed in himself, he couldn't allow it to happen ever again.

"Com, you did everything you could. And we're all still in one piece, right? And it's all because of you." DJ said with a calm tone as he stretched out his arm over the desk, holding and cupping Commander's gloved hand.

Commander would sigh, "I know but.. I don't know if we can get lucky like that if this happens again. I'd never forgive myself."

His voice began to break, holding back any forming tears that might fall. He attempts to act tough, he wouldn't wanna break down in front of DJ.

DJ would squeeze his hand firmly, "Look, Com. You're our leader, and we appreciate you for everything you do. You always know what to do, you're brave and a pretty good leader, y'know?" Tears would drop from the commander's eyes, he couldn't bring himself to hold it all in. It was too overwhelming.

DJ continued, "If you're lost or even confused. We always have your back, okay? We can help you, Com. We're a team so we face everything together, c'mon." He would cup his cheek with his other free hand, brushing away his tears with his thumb.

"You're not alone, okay? We can work things out together." DJ smiled sincerely at the leader. Commander sniffed as he also squeezed DJ's hand, a small smile would form on his lips as his tears stopped coming. "Thanks, DJ."

His voice was a tad quiet but at least he feels a lot better now. His low self-esteem and worries went away like it was nothing.

"You're good, Com. You're all good." DJ chuckled as Commander giggled. He would check the time on the little clock on the desk, 1:24 AM. Commander would yawn, and DJ took that as a cue.

"Let's get to bed and get some rest. You can continue that tomorrow." DJ said as the commander would nod in agreement.

They stood up and organized the paperwork on the desk before leaving the leader's office together and heading to their own rooms, they greeted each other with "Good night" accompanied by warm smiles, and waves before resting for the night.
