Fire

The fire danced around me as it fell down from the sky. Burning coals and ashes swirled the air and covered me. I could hear screams crying for help down the hall from the maids and servants as the castle was burning to crisps. My once perfect and gorgeous purple ball gown, is now burning at the ends, torn to pieces, and covered in ashes. A flame grabbed on to my dress as I ran down the hall of flames, I stopped and tried to tear off the part that was catching fire. I tore it off and tossed it in with the flames and kept running for air. Coughing and gasping for air, I turned a corner and just as I past one of the flags of my beloved country. The flag fell down onto me, I tripped just as it trapped the back of my dress. As I fell, my crown toppled off my head and broke into pieces on the floor. I lie there, in the diamonds, coughing and gasping for air.

"HELP!!" I yell out, down the hall.

No answer.

"HELP ME!" I yell again.

Still no answer.

I pull at my dress, trying to break free. No luck. I can't stop coughing. The smoke chokes me some more as I try to rip my dress so I can break free. It takes so much of my energy, I stop trying and lay down as the fire surrounds me. I hear more footsteps, followed by the sound of some of the troops arriving.

With one last ounce of my strength I yell as loud as I can, "HELP!" I cough some more, then my eyes start to lose sight, and I pass out.

As I woke up and came back to my senses, I was in a healing tent filled with servants who have been burned and doctors in pure white coats. I coughed, and as I looked at my arm I just raised to my face, it was covered in ash. I stood to get up I lost my balance but luckily someone caught me before I fell. I mumbled, "thanks," as the person helped me get back to the cot I was sitting on. I looked up and it was a guy around my age in a military uniform and covered in ash.

He sat down next to me and was looking for something in his jacket. I tried not to stare and see what it was so I looked around the tent and saw my lady in waiting getting her arm bandaged, a few knights I recognized putting rags around cuts in their heads, but I didn't see my father anywhere. He's probably with the General trying to figure out who set our castle on fire and why.

The boy tapped my shoulder and pulled out my crown, he must have found it after I passed out. I reached to grab it but he shook his head and placed the dusty crown on my head. I remeber it being broken when i fell, he must have fixed it. "Did you find me?" I asked him.

"Yeah I did, I was riding my horse through the castle looking for any survivors and I found you laying down. I thought you were dead, but I carried you out anyway." He replied to me, calmly. "Thanks, and I'm Zenovia by the way."

"Yeah I know. I'm Kyron."

"Aren't you a little young to be in the military? I thought you had to be 21 to be in it." I asked Kyron. He blew his black hair out of his stormy blue eyes. He looked at me confused. "You don't know do you?"

Now I was the one confused. "Excuse me? Not know what? I know the Luminaries are advancing towards my kingdom and want to overthrow it, but that's it. What else could there be?"

He shook his head, "I can't believe they don't tell you anything. The Luminaries are the ones who set fire to your kingdom tonight; they have taken over four territories, and have killed over 4,000 of your people. You have lost half your military so they had to lower the age to 16."

No, No, No. He's lying. Father would have told me about this. It cannot be true!

I got up from the cot where we were sitting, Kyron quickly got up too to make sure I wouldn't fall over. "I don't need your help," I said to him as I stormed out of the tent.
