TW: Assault | Violence
"Come on! If you take any longer we're gonna be late!" Iris shouted while dramatically leaning against the bedroom door.
"If you keep shouting at me, I'll never be ready!" Beth yelled back, straightening out her cheerleading uniform and tying her bow into her ponytail. "See? Ready in no time." Beth said, smiling sarcastically and opening the door.
"Whatever you say, now seriously let's go." Iris stated, placed one hand on her backpack strap, then grabbed Beth's hand to pull her downstairs and to the car.
"You girls all buckled in?" Beth's dad, Ethan, asked.
"Yes, definitely. If we wait another second Iris might have a heart attack."
"Well it's not my fault that you took so long to get ready." Iris teased smiling.
After a few minutes, they arrived at the school football field. The large lights shining down on the field, the football players running up and down on the turf. The two girls got out of the car, waving goodbye to Beth's dad.
"C'mon, there's Luke!" Iris, grabbed Beth's hand again and began running towards the stand.
"For someone who's in such a rush, you have no problem taking detours!" Beth said, laughing at Iris' energy. As they got closer, Beth waved to their friend Lucas, trying to call him over.
"Hey you guys! Shouldn't you be down there? I'm just here to watch, not distract the cheerleaders. Plus, if other girls see me with you guys, it might make them think I'm taken."
"As if. We are just here to say hello, don't get ahead of yourself." Iris said, playfully nudging Luke's shoulder.
"But speaking of, maybe he has a point, we don't want to get kicked off the team now." Beth states, pulling Iris along and both of them waving goodbye to Luke while walking down to the field.
As the crowd sat down, and the footballers players said their final chant, the game began. Not only was Beth a varsity cheerleader, but the football team her school had wasn't half bad either. They consistently won, so the game was over in no time, with the home team winning.
After all the cheering and clapping was over with, Lucas, Iris and Beth along with the football players and cheerleaders walked over to the nearby diner.
"Easy game." One of the football players, Drew, said confidently.
"They didn't stand a chance! Did you see them? Half of them were twigs, and the other half of them were basically sleeping!" Another player, Shawn, shouted.
"Maybe it's because you guys practice every day and are actually good?" Beth said, looking between the two boys.
"That too...I mean have you seen us, we're beasts on the field!" Drew shouted, riling the rest of team up and getting the cheerleaders giggling.
The high schoolers continued talking, laughing and disrupting the peace of the diner for about another hour or so, but after that everyone paid their bills and got up to leave.
Drew turned to Shawn, nudging and whispering to him, "Maybe you should ask to walk Beth home, I totally think she's into you and if you don't, I will."
Shawn replied, with wide eyes, "You really think so? Damn, I wouldn't mind if she was into me..." He stated confidently, nodding to Drew and walking over to Beth.
"So, are you guys ready to-" Beth began to say to , but was interrupted by Drew walking over, "Oh hey! What's up?"
"I was wondering if I'd be able to walk you home, y'know, as a proper gentleman might." He spoke confidently, but almost in a disrespectful tone - as if he was more concerned getting the rest of the scattered teams attention then talking to Beth.
"Yeah! I mean, sure! I don't see the harm in that." Beth replied smiling.
Iris and Luke turned to her with a concerned look, "Are you sure?" and "Will you be alright?" they both asked.
"I'll be fine, you both worry too much." She said, reassuring the two. "I'll call you guys when I'm home." Then turning to Drew, "Ready?"
"Born ready." He said, turning, giving Shawn a wink and beginning to walk out with Beth.
"Be safe! Don't forget to text me!" Iris called out to her and turned to Luke with a pouting look.
The two began to walk through the dark town streets, the side walk occasionally being lit up by a street lamp. "So...what made you want to walk me home?"
"Well, I've...I think you're really nice, and I think a guy like me should be walking home with a nice girl." Drew replied, smiling at her.
Beth chuckled awkwardly, rubbing her arm and looking down at the pavement. "Well, thanks. It was nice of you to offer."
"It's my pleasure. Doesn't it feel nice?"
"Doesn't what feel nice?" Beth asked shyly.
"To be the prettiest girl in school walking home with the handsomest guy in school."
"Oh," She said nervously, "you're too nice, really." She felt a presence behind her, cautiously turning her neck to look, but saw nothing. "My house is coming up right here, thanks again for walking me."
"It was really no problem, I'd love to be able to again sometime." He said, beginning to move in closer, "You know Beth, I think you really are the most beautiful girl in school."
"Wow, thank you..." She replied with a partial smile, "I should get inside though my parents might get worried." She stated, her voice unsteady and walking towards the house gate.
"Oh come on, don't play hard to get now." He commanded, grabbing her wrist and pulling her close enough to whisper in her ear, "I really like you Beth, and I want to show you how much I like you."
"Drew- I think that's enough." Beth replied, her voice wavering, "Please let me get inside."
"I don't understand what more I have to do. I walk you home, I'm a nice guy. You should be with me!" He nearly yelled, then placing his lips all over her face.
Beth began hitting his chest trying to push him away, "Please get off of me! I said I want to go home!"
A voice shouted out from a little ways down the street, a glowing light following it and hitting Drew square on the chest, sending him back. Seeing as Drew was basically a walking hulk, it took a lot to knock him back. "What the hell?!" Drew shouted as Beth's house lights went on.
The light flashed again and hit Drew once more, Beth took her chance, opened her gate and ran behind a bush on her front lawn - not wanting her parents to see her. For a final time, it hit him, definitely leaving a bruise at that point, sending the roughly six foot guy running like a child now.
Beth slowly approached the gate, not leaving the fenced in area. She began peering over the gate, looking for who just saved her. "Hello?" She called out quietly. After a few seconds she called out again, "Hello?" She then spotted a tallish figure in the distance, "I see you. Who are you?" She said to the shadow, though probably not the smartest decision.
The not-so-smart decision resulted in a voice replying, a voice that wasn't scary, a voice that sounded kind. "You shouldn't be able to see me." The stranger said, "You have to forget you saw me." Though reluctant, they came out. A boy. A boy with freckles, blue eyes, brown hair, tall...and with pointed ears. "I saw him in the diner and, and I saw you and-"
"You followed me?" Beth asked, standing up tall, but backing away from the fence where the boy stood.
"No, it's not like that, honest. I saw the way him and his friend were talking about you, I was just trying to help. I don't know how you can see me."
"Of course I can see you. I don't know who you are, I don't know why you followed me home but...thank you. I don't know what I would've done if you weren't here." Beth said, now standing closer to the fence.
He looked confused, ashamed, afraid almost, but all he could say was, "Of course."
Before Beth could blink an eye, the stranger was gone. All that's left was a glimpse of light in his place.————————————————————————
