It had been half a moon since the last murder and the she-cat felt a little at peace now. Maybe Mountain'whisper's passing was just a dreadful accident? A fluke. She tucked the last lily into place and gently picked up the flower crown. She purred and made her way through camp to her mate. "Here my love," she mewed to the cream upperfang who was sunning herself.
Cloud'mourner purred, "Thank you," she dipped her head as Epiphanygaze placed the crown on her head. "Would you mind bringing me that shrew?" She eyed the prey pile hungrily and flicked her tail to her mate.
Epiphanygaze twitched her whiskers and brought the small rodent along with a chaffinch for herself. She stretched her legs and placed herself beside her mate, feeling sleepy as the sun danced on her pelt. "How do you survive the sun season with that pelt?" She batted at the fluffy cream molly playfully.
"Oh I have my ways," laughed Cloud'mourner. She tensed her ears as Junipertwig yowled for her her and groaned, "The matted furball's calling me. I'll be back." The she-cat licked her ate on the head and turned away to meet with the council member, her steps graceful.
Epiphanygaze began to rise and chuckled, "Don't go flirting with him." She yawned and resided to the upperfang's then, carefully avoiding the other nests until she approached own. A sudden headache pulsed through her mind and she flopped over hastily, slowly tucked herself to sleep.
Featherlight loomed over the rested she-cat and nudged, "Epiphany? Come on wake up, it's almost sunset," He refused to believe it.
Junipertwig sighed, "There's nothing to do. Inform Cloud'mourner."
The cream molly let out a cry of agony that rang through camp as she's heard the news. "No..." The upperfang put her head to her mate's pelt and whispered again, "No."
"I'm sorry," Junipertwig tried to comfort, his voice emotionless.
Cloud'mourner whipped around, "You! I would've been with her! I could have saved her! If only YOU didn't need me! If only you could have found someone else!" She laughed, "You wanted this to happen. You were distracting me so she could be murdered!"
"Now, now. Let's not be rash," Lakesplash tried to reason.
"Are we not gonna do anything about the murderer!?" screamed the fluffy she-cat.
" SILENCE!" Appleheart snarled. The empress turned to the healer and pressed, "Can you tell us anything about her demise?"
Featherlight was trembling, tears pricking his eyes. He refused to meet Appleheart's gaze, barely whispering, "It wasn't a direct m-murder. The-there are no mar-m-markings."
The fawn and beige seal pointed ragdoll nodded respectfully and padded out of the den and announced, "We'll hold another discussion like before one we've paid our respects and buried the poor dear."
Rest in peace Epiphanygaze. You were taken too soon.
