.....................................

Five years earlier

The sun had finally set and I didn't see Seth for probably a record of two hours. I couldn't help but be relieved because I knew that I was starting to open up to him too much and I couldn't let that happen. I vowed not to ever let anyone get close to me after what happened this past year and I would do whatever it took to keep that promise.

Yet, there was another part of me that couldn't help but miss his presence. I had so much fun with him during our volleyball game, mud fight, and even enjoyed watching the way he acted around my cousins. And lemme tell you, it was one of the most adorable things I have ever seen.

But I couldn't think about that now. I needed to forget all about him and focus on helping Nona make the salad.

Mmm joy. Note the sarcasm.

While I silently eavesdropped onto my family's multiple conversations, I was busy chopping avocados, the easiest thing in the world to cut; especially after cutting the eye watering onion, red squishyy tomatoes, and crunchy bell peppers.

"Nuh uh, I was supposed to cook the meat." Papa argued.

"Then why are you doing it? Can't you see I'm a little busy?!" Nona snapped, her voice raising into the scary "don't mess with me" level.

"Ooookay Janet! No need to raise your voice." Papa whined. I swear, when they argue, he reminds me of a little kid fighting with his mother.

Nona slammed her knife down on the cutting board. "Don't you use that tone with me, Patrick!"

I bit my tongue, trying to conceal my laughter. I know this might sound bad, but their arguments were one of the funniest things that anyone could ever witness. My sister, cousins and I even joke about it when they're not looking. I personally think they should go on America's Funniest Home Videos. For what it's worth, they might as well make some bank off of it.

"PATRICK!" Nona shouted.

"JANET!" Papa screamed back in the same tone.

I stopped chopping the vegetables and stole a glance over in my cousin's direction. Both of them were as equally amused as I was and were both trying their hardest to hold in their laughter.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the trailer door.

Nona glanced over towards me, "Em, can you get that. I'm kind of BUSY here!" She shouted, returning her gaze to her extremely amused husband.

A giggle slipped from my throat. Ahhhh I love him.

I walked the short distance to open the door to meet the smiling face of a certain someone.

Yeah, I like that. A certain someone has a nice ring to it.

I sighed dramatically, acting as if I was super irritated that he had returned, when instead I was quite the opposite. "What do YOU want?"

Seth's eyebrows narrowed, showing that he was slightly taken back by my response. "Nice to see you too. I SO missed your presence."

I rolled my eyes and smirked. "Obviously or else you wouldn't be back here. Seriously Seth, you have got to work on your abandonment issues because you're starting to get a little clingy."
