I sat down on the chair inside my small office. The chief had told me to stay here after work, he wanted to speak to me. I picked up the stack of papers on the desk and started going through them one by one, they were profiles of all the witnesses, I was in there too. It was my son's birthday party that we were celebrating there afterall. Well, better to say had started celebrating. Not even an hour had passed from the party was when the police showed up to look for the kids, but not even one of them were found. I sighed, searching the desk for the other case files, and found two other stacks, buried under a pile of useless books and newspapers. One was the case files for potential suspects, and the other was of the victims, they're names read as following:

       Susie Roberts
      Cassidy Torabi
      Michael Brooks
      Fritz Morris
      Jeremy Summers
      Gabriel Lucas

Looking at the case files broke my heart. All these children, with so many dreams and ambitions, had the only thing they had taken away from them. The more I looked at them, the more I thought, what if, instead of these children, my son was the one to be taken away. I could never forgive myself for it. I tossed the files back onto the table and shorty after, the chief arrived.

"Sorry for keepin' you waitin' Burke." He fixed his tie "Alrighty, I'll get straight to the point, so as you know...We've got two suspects on our hands right now mhm?" I nodded "Well you see, doin' interviews like this ain't gettin' us anywhere, so me an' some of the others decided what we'll do instead is to get two of our best investigators and send 'em to their homes, to yknow, get to know 'em more and take a look at their houses in the mean time. See what they hidin' in there" I looked at him, confused "So, you want me to go over and make friends with one of our suspects?"
"Exactly! If they think of you as a frien' they won't be intimidated no more, they'll talk to you easier, they'll slip up more, and tell you somethin' we woulda never gotten them to say. who knows maybe they'll even admit guilt to you!" He smiled "Now, the person we've assigned you to is Henry Emily. You've never talked to him am I right?" I nodded, and sat up straight "Well good, that's one of the reasons we assigned you with him an' the other reason....Well..." He bit his lip, thinking of how to word his sentence correctly, then continued "That Henry guy he's....An interestin' fella, to not put it harshly"
"Interesting?" I've only heard of Henry's name, and read his case files, never talked to him or read any of the transcripts of his interviews. He didn't seem like the murderer type to me but in this situation, I think it's better to not judge like that. "He's gotta screw or two loose. Go read the transcripts there's no way in hell you'd many any sense of anythin' he says! We think you'd be able to connect with him more than our other officers were because, he's kinda on edge after he learnt he's our suspect and doesn't answer anythin' right, he's too nervous. Maybe seein' you don't know anythin' 'bout him'll make him more likely to be calm aroun'chu. Plus, you're the most experienced here! Now that ain't sayin' much 'cuz you've only been workin' here for 3 years an'...well we hadn't had anythin' of the sorts in this ol' town for as long as I can remember..But I feel like you'd do great! Don't disappoint me now Burke" He chuckled and leaned back onto my desk. I smiled at him "I won't" At first I wasn't too invested but the more he explained, the more eager I got "Alrighty then, here's his address an' telephone number" He took out a folded piece of paper from his pocket and gave it to me, I opened it. His house wasn't too far away from mine, so that was good. "Just remember, he has a little kid, 5 years old to be exact. Two years younger than your son. So maybe bring Calrton with you sometimes so him an' his kid can play, you might gain his trust more that way" I nodded and folded the paper again, putting it in my leather bag "Well that's all then. See ya later Burke!" He waved goodbye as he left my office.
