A/N: gosh, i need to make more sayonika

Sayori and Monika were spending the whole day together. Sure, it wasn't uncommon that they would spend a lot of time together, as they were very close best friends, but this time was different. All of the places they went to were places Monika liked specifically. This trip was done just to have Monika enjoy herself with Sayori.

For the last time in a while.

The main reason they were doing this was because Monika wouldn't be around next year, or 3 more after that, because she had to attend college. Sayori simply didn't want to, as she never really wanted a high stakes role in society, but even if she did go to college, she wouldn't be able to go to where Monika went, anyways. This was done to ensure that Monika's last day at her home town could be spent with her dearest friend. Of course, despite how much both were enjoying their day, they couldn't shake the notion of why they were doing this. This hurt Sayori especially, as while she perfectly understood why this was happening and was fully supportive of Monika doing greater things in her life, she was heartbroken at the notion that she had to leave to get this goal. However, she didn't want to stress Monika with her woes, so she kept it bottled up and put on a smile. Monika wouldn't want her to cry.

Unfortunately, as the day came closer to ending, it became harder for Sayori to keep herself that way. Monika wasn't her first friend, but she was her closest friend for sure. She was always there when Sayori needed someone, and was always willing to help or go along with what Sayori wanted to do. To Sayori, Monika was the most important person she has met in her life. Of course, with such notions for someone, it's rather easy for more-than-platonic feelings to build, and Sayori did notice these feelings, though she really wished she hadn't, because they just made the fact Monika was leaving hurt more. Monika stood, watching the sun go down, as their last stop led them to a place they could see it.

"Hm... I guess I won't really be able to see sunsets like this for a while, huh?" Monika asked, staring at the horizon.

"Yeah... I will, too." Sayori muttered, staring at Monika. She glanced at Sayori, somewhat confused.

"You aren't leaving too, are you?"

"Oh, well... I just won't really have a reason to go to places like these anymore, I mean." Sayori chuckles nervously, "You are the main way I really get around places, you know."

"Oh, that's what you mean. You should probably learn to be more independent since I won't be here. You can still call me of course." Monika says, holding her finger up as she does whenever she gives a tip on something someone can do. Sayori finds it cute, albeit distracting and sort of strange.

"Oh, I will! I'm probably gonna talk to you every day!" Sayori proclaims, making Monika playfully roll her eyes, as that would be a rather 'Sayori' thing to do. When she looked at her bubbly friend, though, she noticed slight sadness in her eyes. "...It won't be the same without seeing you there, though."

"Oh, that's what you meant." Monika said, a bit sadder in tone, "I'm really gonna miss you, too, Sayo. I promise, though, that when I'm done with all of my college work, I'll come back, and we can keep being friends, like old times." Monika smiles, but Sayori still kept her sad eyes.

"There's something else, Moni." Sayori said, now finding it hard to stare in Monika's direction. Monika cocked her eyebrow up at this.

"Something else?"

Sayori released a big sigh, knowing that she finally had to say her secret. She looked over to Monika. "Monika. I... I can't just stay silent anymore. I don't know when this happened, but... I think I love you." Sayori glances at Monika, and she doesn't seem to react. Sayori continues, "I know I'm probably the 5th person or something who's told you that, knowing you're popular and all, but I just thought I had to tell you, since we are best friends and you are going to need to leave. I can't just let you leave with these feelings still bottled up inside me, so..." Sayori sighed again, already accepting the idea that she wouldn't get anything out of this. Monika, however, thought hard about what was just said.
