chapter one: spirit week

"So, how's that boyfriend of yours?" My mom asked as I rolled my eyes, throwing my bowl in the sink.

"He's decent." I lie. If anything he's the worst boyfriend ever. "Anwyays, I have to go."

"Bye." My mom kisses my cheek as I smile.

"Bye." I grab my bag before walking out the house, closing the door.

The truth is, I don't even like men. Yeah, being friends with them is cool and all but I can't picture myself with one. Getting married to one, starting a life with one, etc. But I'm afraid that if my mom knew, she'd kick me out.

-

"Karen, why do you have to be a bitch about literally everything?" Tabby says as I walk over to her.

"Keep in mind you're not even that liked. People just fear you. Which I don't get why when all you are is just fucking annoying." I shrug.

"Shut the hell up, Rowan."

"No." I smile at her. "Come on."

Tabby, Imogen, and I walk through the hallway before stopping at a corner.

"Karen's a giant walking macro aggression, but there's safety in numbers." Tabby tells Imogen as I nodded. "You wanna sit together at lunch?"

"Yeah... for sure."

"Cool, I'll meet you in the cafeteria, and, Imogen fuck 'em. You don't owe anyone anything."

"Thanks, Tabby."

"Bye, Imogen. Text if you need." I smile at her before Tabby and I walk off.

"So.. what'd you do last weekend?" She asked as I looked at her.

"Just watched Unfriended and then watched Disney movies. Then work comes in." I tell her as she nodded. "What about you?"

"Working and stuff. Basically the same thing." She laughed as I smiled.

"I'll see you later?"

"Yeah, bye!"

"Bye!" I walked into the girls bathroom.

I walk into a stall as my phone vibrated, causing me to take it out of my pocket while locking the stall door.

"Still in the closet, do you need a push?" The text said, causing me to scoff. The bathroom was now empty since the bell rang.

"Who the hell are you?" I text back.

"Your backup."

"Yeah right." I say before getting out of the stall and walking off.
