There's a wide world out there for those willing to brave the darkness.
Buildings surrounded by UV lights fill the city alongside rubble and debris. The sun has been nowhere to be found for years. This ultimate darkness isn't what killed them all.
The humans ruled this world, but now they are few and far between. Only the strongest survived, and even they couldn't protect anyone but themselves. There are creatures, no, monsters in the darkness. They have no explanation, no reason to be alive except adaptation and pure survival. These beasts are merciless, viscous, and just one can kill a thousand men in one second.
The scientists that were studying the darkness and helping the dwindling human population to survive were all killed. All scientists resided in one building, the Study Center, where all research was done in the safety of massive UV protection. Most of them died trying to figure out that UV light killed the monsters. The few left stayed together, their ultimate mistake.
Electricity was unreliable in the state of the world. The Study Center had 10 massive UV lights connected to a single powerful generator. One day, the generator overheated and caused a small explosion, making the UV light worthless. The building in darkness, panic ensued and soon the creatures came. Nobody in the building survived.
It may be surprising to know just how big these creatures are. They're about the size of a domesticated house cat, but instead of fur, scales and feathers. UV light makes them blind and if under the light for more than 10 seconds, they ultimately explode into a pile of feathers and blue blood.
Their blood is toxic and can burn through 100 story buildings to the ground in 30 seconds. This is what made surrounding buildings in the UV light so important. The creatures weren't dumb, they were smarter than humans at times. They would secrete their blood and allow it to burn through buildings, onto generators, and into UV lights from a distance.
Humans fought their best, but with how few there really are left, it seems almost impossible to return to the old world. At least, that's what they all thought in their hopeless moments. What they didn't know, was there was a child alone in this darkness.
A young girl running through the darkness, her eyes adjusted to years in black. She is faster than the beasts, and knows the secret to killing them without UV. Unbeknownst to the rest of the human population left, this lone girl has killed almost all of the beasts. The darkness is slowly more safe, even without scientists to study the world, and military to protect.
The girl traveled the world killing every creature she could find. One day, she cried out in pain. The sunrise startled every human still alive, but ultimately was joyful. The girl was blinded and exploded into a pile of blue blood.
There's a new world, ready to be explored by those who survived.
