"Trevor! Elizabeth!" the sudden noise made Elizabeth jump. She clutched her chest for a moment before moving to where she had heard Sypha shout.

Elizabeth exited the stacks to see Sypha on the level above waving at her. Trevor appeared beside Elizabeth, "What?" he called out to her. Elizabeth could tell he's been asleep, probably napping in some dark corner out of sight. Trevor rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

"I have something!"

"When I say 'what', that doesn't mean I'd like to ask more questions," Elizabeth elbowed him, knocking him off balance for a moment.

"Would you please-" Sypha broke off into angry muttering at Trevor, she rubbed her temples furiously. Elizabeth looked at Trevor and motioned to the stairs. He huffed and threw his head back, making a loud groan.

"Move," Elizabeth demanded, pushing him along as she went upstairs to where Sypha was, "We're coming up!" she warned her.

"I think I found a locking spell!" the woman exclaimed loudly, her voice echoing through the chamber, "Wait, listen...your family have entire literature here about the castle. they tried for centuries to eliminate its main advantage, it transports itself through magical means," Elizabeth hurried Trevor with a firm push, his pace making her twitch impatiently.

"Right, so you can't attack it if it just jumps somewhere else," he said between yawns. Elizabeth grunted at him, growing more infuriated with his slowness.

"Yes! So some clever Belmont eventually formulated most of a locking spell. A method to catch the castle and lock it down to a single location so that it can be invaded,"

"Most of it?" Elizabeth heard him but couldn't see him past Trevor's shoulders. Her eyes searched the beams and stairs to see where the vampire had perched himself.

"I can finish the final clauses of it myself! It's all based on Adamical structures,"

"You keep saying that word, I still don't know what that is," Elizabeth called out, waving a hand from behind Trevor as he slowed even more near the last 3 steps. She felt the urge to pull him down the set but knew he would drag her with him.

Sypha sighed, "Adamic is the original human language. The one spoken by Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. The one that was split into all other languages at the tower of babel by God to prevent human cooperation," Elizabeth's mouth went agape.

"Is that how you understand that story?"

"Oh yes, the Speakers are the enemy of God. We live in cooperation and hide our stories inside ourselves so he cannot strike them down in jealously," Elizabeth climbed the last step and sighed with relief to finally not be stuck behind Trevor.

She went to ask a question went the ceiling shuddered above them. A great thudding sound echoed through the hall, shaking the beams violently. Elizabeth watched the plaster cracks and split along the walls.

"See? God hates me," Sypha exclaimed, pointing to the source of the rumbling sounds.

Elizabeth pressed a finger to her lips, asking Sypha to be quiet. Elizabeth followed the booms, taking steps towards the staircase. The sound was much louder, the closer she crept to the entrance.

"Whatever that is, it wants in now," Elizabeth warned. Trevor had the whip in hand, preparing it for use.

"Can we get that magic mirror working?" Trevor asked, pointing to the dusty relic on the lower level. Sypha put the book down on the nearest surface and made her way down the stairs.

"I think so," she said, picking up the edges of her robes so she could run to the mirror, "I can't do two things at once," she cried, struggling between the mirror and the locking spell.

Elizabeth looked to the dark shape that dropped from above, Alucard stepped out of the thin beams of shadows, "I know some Chaldaic, I know how to work the distancing mirror," he said firmly, he look to Trevor to wait for whatever plan was brewing in that thick skull of his, "Which shall I do?"

Everyone looked to Trevor who coiled his whip nervously. He couldn't fight alone up there, whatever was coming, it was big and could possibly overwhelm him. Elizabeth was still injured, she could barely lift a dagger right now. She could stay as the last line of defence, the last resort to protect Sypha down here. He would have felt a lot more confident if Alucard could fight at his side.

"I-I can't do either of those things..." he said sadly, his fear getting the better of him. Elizabeth marched back to him from the stairs to grip her brother's shoulder and reassure him.

Alucard cut through the tender moment, "Come on Belmont. Time to choose," he said hurriedly. Elizabeth didn't look at him, she just kept her eyes focused on Trevor who avoided the looks in the room, "You're either the last son of a warrior dynasty or a lucky drunk. Which is it?" a loud boom reaffirmed his point, perhaps it was god punishing them, Elizabeth thought. Trevor was still silent, frozen with a worried expression.

She sighed, "Sypha, finish the locking spell," she commanded, Sypha was already moving to the mirror, "Alucard, get the distancing mirror working, I need numbers and an idea of what we're dealing with," Trevor was too stunned to speak, "Trevor, I need you to form a barricade, block their path, use whatever you can to slow them down and buy the others time,"

"What will you do?" he asked sheepishly.

"Something reckless," she said, smiling at her twin. Trevor nodded, knowing if there was any time for a reckless plan, it was now. He gripped her hand, squeezing it gently before cracking the whip against the floor and using it to propel himself onto the upper levels quickly.

"Do I want to know what you're thinking?" Alucard asked, the two of them left alone on the floor.

"Probably not, I don't even know if it'll work but maybe it is some time we had some good luck," she went to dash up the stairs, knowing where she needed to be. Alucard caught her wrist before she got very far.

"Then this is for good luck," he spun her into him and kissed her. The walls around them quaked and shook glass, dust and books all around them. Elizabeth felt a needy desire to let it all fall to ruin around her, she wanted to freeze this moment with him, feeling his hot breath against her skin and his soft lips interlocked with hers, but she knew she couldn't.
