Emergencies can happen anywhere and to anyone. But the important thing is that at the end of the day everyone has a way to cope with whatever happens whether it's good or bad. I snap out of my thoughts as we arrive to a home where a mother was doing chest compressions on her son.
"Okay, Buck, start chest compressions. Hen, start bagging him." Bobby said. "Got you, Captain." Hen responded. "Ma'am come with me. I need to get my team in here. Don't worry. He's gonna be all right. He's gonna be all right. Please, just take a seat." Bobby tells the mother. "Get some of that water out." Hen stated.
"Coming around. Starting compressions." Buck says. "Pulse ox is on. Pad's on." Chimney spoke. "How long was he underwater?" Bobby asks the mother. "I don't know. A few minutes, maybe."
"...seven, eight, nine, ten," Buck counts as he continued to do compressions. "Is he on any type of medications?" I ask her. "No."
"18, 19, 20. Go." Buck says as the defibrillator charges. "No rhythm." Chimney says. The defibrillator charges up again and still nothing happens. "Come on kid. Come on." I hear Buck whisper. After a few seconds the water starts to exits the boy's body. "It's coming, it's coming, it's coming." Hen says, thank goodness.
"Hey. Hey, man. That's it. Get it out." Buck says. "Good job, kid." Bobby spoke. "Good job. Good job." Hen said. "All right, kid your mom is right here." Bobby told the boy. "You're gonna be okay." Hen assured. "Thank you. You'll be okay." she says to us then whispers to her son. I was glad he was okay.
After that call we got another call about a female jumper. We all watched as Bobby went up to try and talk her into coming down. He reaches her and he holds his hand out for her to take, which I hoped she would be instead she stood up turned around and let go. We all watched as she fell and there was nothing we could do because she was already gone.
After the call we returned back to the station. I saw everyone but one person "Hen, Chim. Where's Buck?" I question. The two look at each other and back at me "Never mind, I think I got my answer." I groan as I walk to the table He was probably hooking up with some random chick. As I scroll through my phone Chimney starts talking about his girlfriend.
"I know exactly what that polite, distant smile means: she's bored. One foot out the door. This woman's so far out of my league, but she's just once-in-a-lifetime. I can't let her go." He says, honestly I wasn't really into dating right now. Too much heartbreak I guess. "Lots of fish in the sea." Bobby says and I nod. "Not with the bait he's using." Hen spoke.
"Cruel but true. Mm." Hen chuckles as Chimney continues. "I met her on this new dating site just for cops and firefighters, RomancingTheUniform.com. She's an adrenaline junkie, so foreplay is me telling her stories about running into burning buildings and jumping into icy lakes and..."
