(AN: If you all noticed, this chapter's picture is of one of NY's parks. I wanted to include a picture of one as a huge shoutout to grw255nyc's series of stories, which inspired me to write my own story. If you haven't checked them out, I HIGHLY recommend doing. They are awesome and so very well-written!)

Sliding my sunglasses over my eyes, I pushed against the door of my apartment building, letting it rest against my hip as I gave the security my usual smile and let my mother and Lizzie pass through.

We were currently on our way to the park for our official outing, and not surprisingly, my mother had decided an earlier visit would be the best. To beat the heat that LA evenings always brought. I, however, was not much of a morning person, especially not when my mother dragged me out of bed at eight to get the day started. But I suffered through it, mostly because I wasn't trying to add to the stress I could tell Lizzie was feeling about this. It had been practically radiating off the blonde all morning. Not that I blamed her. Coming out was hard enough. Coming out to the public eye when your name's pretty well-known all over the world...it's stressful.

Which is why I was ready to shut this down if need be, my eyes sweeping over my girlfriend's face as we started off towards the park. If she wasn't ready to do this I'd be more than happy to wait until she was, but she'd been pretty adamant about doing this and I understood that she wanted to do this on her terms. She likes to be in control of things, that much I've learned about her.

After watching the blonde's shift slightly from one foot to the other while we were waiting for a light to change, I casually leaned down, close enough for only her to hear me. "We don't have to do this now, Liz. We can wait."

Her green eyes were hidden behind her own sunglasses, but I didn't need to see them to know that they were full of determination. Lizzie was nothing if not someone to see something through once they put their mind to it. "No. I want this."

Nodding, I let my hand brush up against hers, letting her make the next move. Her fingers automatically weaved through mine and I smiled slightly to myself, giving her hand a small squeeze. I guess we're doing this.

Following behind my mother, I pulled the blonde closer to me as we entered the park when a large group of tourists came walking by, dropping her hand for a split second before wrapping my arm around her shoulders, her own wrapping around my waist tightly.

From somewhere off to the right I could see a couple of flashes go off, but I couldn't tell if it was because the paparazzi had finally found us or if it was just someone from the group we'd just passed snapping a picture. Either or I knew Lizzie noticed it, too, her body tensing slightly.

Rubbing my hand up and down her arm soothingly, I pulled her even closer, the blonde now fully tucked into my side. I smiled slightly when I felt her melt into the small embrace, placing a kiss to the side of her head. "Still good?"

The blonde nodded, her head falling so her cheek was resting against my shoulder so she could look up at me, her other arm joining itself around my waist. "Still good."

Giving her a squeeze, I stopped as my mother (thankfully) found a quieter place to set up for our picnic, removing myself from my girlfriend's side to help her set everything up. Before long, I was sprawled out on my back on one side of the blanket, arms folded behind my head near Lizzie's legs and content to let my skin soak in the sun's morning rays and listen in to the conversation my mother and Lizzie were having with a smile.

"...and then she went through this period where all she would wear was this motorcycle helmet with the protective screen popped out and would pretend she was an astronaut. I had to pay her in candy to take it off for school pictures."
