Aria Belowe

"It's always darkest before dawn."

I gently put the bottle in Odette's mouth as I rock her back and forth, hoping to make her sleepy for bed. I grab a cloth and wipe away the milk spilling from her lips. Her eyes slowly close but she keeps resisting the urge to fully shut them. I bring my own spoon with cereal to my mouth and relax against the backrest of the chair.

The front door of my apartment opens and Tate walks in with a bag of groceries in her hand. I roll my eyes at her but she just smiles back and places the bag on the counter in front of me.

"You didn't have to do that," I groan as I rub Odette's cheek with my free hand. Tate grasps a random chair and before I know it, she sits next to me.

"Of course I had to!" she takes something out of the bag. Ice cream. "We need to get over that walking red flag." she says with a serious face. I giggle a bit and hug her with my free arm, she hugs me back and then takes Odette from me.

I run my hand through my hair in frustration. "He literally told me he would pay for everything. Tate, you know I'm not the kind of person to rely on a man. I want to make my own money." I sigh. Tate nods and rubs my back.

"I know Silas is rude. I've heard all about it, but Elliot seemed afraid of me being interested in working at Lodge Industries."

Tate nods once again and faces me. "He's an ass, I'll rip his head off the next time I see him."

A smile crosses my lips. Suddenly I hear my ringtone. I grab my phone out of my pocket and take the call.

"Greetings, am I speaking with Aria Belowe? This is Lodge Industries."

I jump up from my chair and Tate's eyes follow every move.

"Yes-- yes, you're speaking with Aria Belowe." I finally answer after quietly cheering for about 10 seconds.

"I'm calling you regarding the assistant position. You're into round two, which means you'll be interviewed." the man says through the phone. I bite my lip in happiness.

I smile at Tate. "When is the interview?" I question the employee. "I'm available at any time."

Tate gets up and makes her way to Odette's nursery to put her to sleep. I'm so grateful she's here. If she wasn't, I would've had a crying Odette disturb this phone call.

"Tomorrow at 4:15 PM. If you cannot make it, just call the customer service number."

"Got it. Thank you for this great apportunity." I say as I hang up the phone and dig it back into my pocket.
