The room greets me with a rush of hot stale air as I enter it. I make my way through the heat across the room and quickly turn on the AC. I stand at the window for a moment letting the cool air hit my face staring out onto the view of the skyline in front of me. The bulky AC unit does a good job at making the view look impressive until my eyes drop to the street below. The August heat seems to make the street dirtier. I glance at the beer cans scattered across the road and then my eyes turn to follow a woman dodging garbage bags on the road. Even from my view, I can tell she is dripping in sweat and does not seem to be enjoying her run so I wonder why she would choose to run now. Early morning would make more sense or maybe even dusk. Perhaps she's not a morning person and I also don't think I would feel safe running when it will soon be dark out. My mind then wanders off to the question of why someone would choose running outside, in August, in Cincinnati as a hobby. Before my mind can be absorbed by this random woman running she disappears from my view and my phone buzzes on my bed. Satisfied with how much the AC has cooled me down I step away from the window and plop down on my bed picking up my phone.
Can you please talk to me
I let my phone go black again to try and gather my thoughts
Delilah this is driving me crazy it has been a week please just text me
Letting out a loud groan I dramatically flip my phone over and roll over staring at the plants hanging from my ceiling. Hearing noises downstairs I know Katie and Lyd are home. I debate getting out of bed and heading down there to ask them for advice. Then my phone buzzes again and I glance over debating how long I can go without wondering what the message says, it takes approximately 3 seconds until I cave
Hey, we are going to get drinks and some food before the concert do you want to come?
Finally, a text I can respond to, I prop myself on the bed and respond.
Shit, I totally forgot that was tonight, I need to shower and find something to wear I'll just be the driver tonight ok?
Katie quickly responds
Aww are you sure we could have ubered, you better not be ditching us tonight I haven't seen you in AGESSSS
Before I can respond to her dramatic text, she sends another one
Okk we are leaving love you
I opened our group message so Lyd can see the message as well,
Be back by 5 love you guys
I scroll through my phone for what feels like a couple of minutes but then when I check the time it reads 3:45, shit I know I finally have to stop procrastinating and get ready for a concert I'm not sure I even want to go to.
