“This will be your sweet haven for the next two weeks-seventeen days to be precise. Have fun and make the most out of it.”
The attendant explained as he put their bags down in the cottage they were to stay in. The cottage was one of the many owned by the resort that had planned the get away. Marion wandered to the kitchen area. It was fully equipped; cooker, refrigerator, everything.
“We’ll stock the fridge with what you need for your stay, just incase you guys wont feel like leaving your room.” The attendant followed her to the kitchen while giving her the details. “There’s some books, travel and fashion magazines in the living room for your perusal. It’s just a by the way. Most couples never touch a single one of them.” He said lightly with a smile on his face.
“We can tell.” Lance told him, already bored with him going on and on. All he wanted to do was to take a bath and sleep the jetlag off. Marion needed that too, he was certain. If so, then they’d have to share the bed…He paused and got the brochure from his pocket. The cottages had two rooms, thank God for small mercies! Much relieved, he turned to the attendant who was still talking.
“There’s two rooms, one is the master en suite-most guests call it the magic room while the other one slightly smaller but still comfortable is right next to it for those days when the fights cant be resolved. We wouldn’t like you to spend the night on the couch.”
“How considerate of you.” Marion said, in her mind wishing the attendant would just up and leave already! After all they weren’t dumb and they could pretty much figure out what was what on their own. She reached for her bag for change and tipped him. He left immediately.
“All that talk was for a tip?” Lance asked.
“Apparently. I’m jetlagged and I need a shower.” She picked her bags and walked to the smaller room.
“And what do you think you are doing?”
“Settling in. I’m taking the small room.”
“What?” Lance stepped in front of her. “You’re taking the big room. Girls need more space than we do.”
“No, you’re taking it.”
“Our first fight. Sweet.” Lance teased. “Fine, we’ll both take the small room and share the bed. How about that?”
Marion groaned. “Fine! I will take the master room.”
“I was hoping otherwise.” He joked. “The bed isn’t that small. There’s just enough space for the two of us.”
“Those weren’t the terms of the agreement.”
“Separate rooms but a good show for everyone out there to see, I know the terms.”
“Good.”
“We’ll see about that, May.”
“What did you call me?”
“May.”
“Why?”
“I like the name.” he paused before he told her it had been his sister’s name. The sister he’d only got to spend five years with before an accident claimed her life, the same accident that had taken his dad’s life too. Those were details he never told anyone. Family was a touchy topic to him. “And because
I like you too. Marion May Whatley.”
“How on earth did I settle on you?” Marion rolled her eyes.
“Maybe because the feeling is mutual?” He winked at her, picked his bags and disappeared into the room. Marion fell in love with the room immediately. The inviting spongy carpet beckoned her to kick off her shoes-and she did exactly that, loving the feel of the carpet on her toes. She fell back on the king-sized bed and sighed. Who had she been kidding? Of course she had wanted that room to herself! She just needed to play nice…it always worked with the guys-and Lance was no exception. He had fallen for it!
