Last day of the vacation and none of them wanted to leave. The trip to the airport was a quiet one as both of them used that time to think of what lay ahead for them.Lance, it was back to his boys, the company-and Ophelia. For Marion, it was Taraji, her sisters, the advertising campaign she’d been told to head and her parents’ divorce. On the flight however, they reminisced on their time at the cottage, laughing at the embarrassing and funny moments they’d had.
Marion was the first to wake up when they got home. She turned to Lance to wake him up but found herself staring instead. She wasn’t going to deny it, she was going to miss him-and that hadn’t been what she’d expected from the trip. She sighed to clear her head and nudged him.
“Wakey sleepy head.” Marion’s voice cut short his dream. “We’re home.”
He sat up and stretched. “Already?”
“Yup, already.”
“Let’s not get off the plane.” He told her as the other passengers alighted. “I don’t want to back to the boys with their questions and all.”
Marion laughed. It was hard to imagine she was going to miss all that. “Hell no! We have to get off…”
“Come on, May. One last dumb thing before we go home.” Lance pleaded.
“Ok, fine.”
The two sat chuckling as the other passengers walked down the aisle giving those weird looks. When the last of the passengers alighted and they still made no effort to move out of their seats, the flight attendant walked over to check on them. She left after they assured her that they were okay. Lance shocked Marion by lifting her effortlessly into his lap.
“What the…?” Marion exclaimed, turning to check if the flight attendant was watching them.
“Relax. No one’s here.”
“What are you thinking?”
Lance smiled. “Where’s the craziest place you’ve ever made out?”
Marion’s cheeks flushed. She’d had a couple of fantasies on places to do naughty things but hadn’t imagined a plane as one of them-and certainly not with Lance. “This is crazy, Lance.”
“It’s exciting, don’t you think?”
“Dumb is more like it.”
“Then you’re officially as dumb as I am.” He whispered as he kissed her. “Home to your place, your mum’s,” he paused. “Or mine?”
“When did that become an option?”
“When you became my partner in crime.” He replied. “Kidding.” He added fast when he saw she was ready to protest.
“My place. I’m sure the entire Whatley clan is there waiting for me.”
“I thought you hardly let anyone in.”
“You don’t get rid of them that easily. It’s a Whatley thing.”
“So, should I be worried?”He teased.
“Very worried.” She replied, laughing.
Lance however, didn’t see it entirely as a joke. He already had a bad feeling about them parting ways and going back to their lives. He loved his life on that vacation and was plain scared of what his real life had in store for him. He’d left his car in the airport’s parking and he was glad to see it was still intact. There had been a series of car thefts in airport parking and he’d been worried he’d be treated to a bad shock too.
“Missed you too dear.” He said as he helped Marion with her bags.
“You’re talking to your car?”
