Chapter 25: Unconscious.

Veronica's eyes widened as he opened the door. It was a beautiful sight. The hall was lit up with warm lights. A small bouquet of baby pink and white lilies was placed on the center table. As she walked in, the aroma of fresh parmesan filled her senses, and she concluded that he had made pasta, their favorite Italian course after pizzas. Her suspicions were cleared when she moved further in to see the stunningly garnished and tempting pasta on the dining table. She looked at him and found him staring intently at her. It felt good. All the nervousness and anxiety flew out of the window as soon as their eyes connected.

"This is so overwhelming, Seb..." Veronica trailed off, looking around, then back at him, "For what?" she asked not knowing what else to say.

"I have to talk to you about a few things, Veronica. But the food ought to get cold if we don't eat it now. So, how about we discuss this over lunch?" His eyes were twinkly, bearing anticipation and nervousness along with some sort of satisfaction that Veronica did like all that he had done; the broad smile on her lips said that.

She nodded, looking at him, and he quickly got behind her and pulled the chair for her to sit on. Veronica looked at him, smiling lightly; she mumbled a thank you and sat. Taking a deep breath, Sebastian moved towards his side and sat; he looked at her and gestured for her to try the pasta.

Looking down at him and then at the pasta, she took the fork that was kept beside the plate and dug into the delicacy. Heaven. Veronica thought as she took her first bite, her eyes closed in pure bliss as she relished the pasta. It was cheesy enough, not bland, just with the perfect amount of seasonings. The garlic complimented the cheese so well that the flavors made her forget about the situation, and she indulged in the heavenly delight with all her heart.

Sebastian couldn't stop the smile that stretched on his lips at how she was cherishing the food. It was evident from her reaction that she loved the pasta. Like always, his heart melted at sight. He felt accomplished and satisfied that Veronica liked what he had made. She always did, but it never stopped making him feel happier than ever.

Veronica opened her eyes to find Seb smiling at her. And then reality hit her. Even though the pasta was stunning, they were supposed to talk. So, she quickly finished the portion she was having kept the fork down, straightened up, and started, "So-" She was cut off by her ringing phone. A frown adorned both their faces at the interruption. Nonetheless, when Veronica saw it was Luca calling her, she ignored it and turned her attention back to Sebastian.

As soon as she was going to start, her phone started buzzing again, and Luca's name popped up. Frustrated, she picked up the call, and as soon as she did, she ran a hand through her hair and said, "Hello?"

"Veronica?" he paused briefly after she hummed a yes and continued, "Can you please come over? Axel collapsed and-"

"Axel- WHAT?" Veronica shot up from her seat, concern filled in those beautiful brown orbs, her smile now long gone. As soon as Sebastian heard her say Axel's name, bits of jealousy arose in his being, and as on reflex, even he got up from his seat; the difference between their actions was just that Veronica was worried while even though a part in Seb did worry about his old mate, a part of him was also ticked off because of the interruption.

"I- I'll be there." Veronica said hurriedly and looked at Seb, concern, sadness, and sorrow filling her eyes; she said, "I'm so sorry, Seb, I have to go. Luca called up, and he said Axel collapsed out of nowhere--"

"I'll come with you; give me a few seconds. I'll cover our food." Veronica nodded and headed towards the door, wearing her shoes.

Sebastian quickly covered everything, and in less than 5 minutes, both of them were out of the house, rushing to Luca's.

Veronica knocked on their door and was surprised when she found that it was left open. Sebastian's brows furrowed in confusion; no lights were lit up, the door had swung open in front of the two, and it was... unusually creepy, an unsettling feeling of danger rooting in their hearts. They both shared a look and went hand in hand, stepping into the house. 

Veronica called, "Axel?" No response.

"Luca?" No response.

What was happening? Sebastian's mind was fuzzy. Was this some nasty surprise or some shitty thing that interrupted their little kind of date?

Veronica held his hand tighter when they felt a cool breeze right behind them since they were still just by the door and not fully in the house. Sebastian held her hand tighter, reassuring her, and went ahead, trying to get to the light switch. But the lights didn't work.

They were quiet inside the house now, the only illumination being the open door. "Why don't you try calling him?" Annoyance because of Axel and a tinge of worry for Veronica hinting in his voice. She quickly took her cell out of her pocket, her left hand still in Seb's. Dialing Luca's number, she kept it on speaker, and just as the first ring rang, the door slammed shut, making her scream; Seb pulled her closer to him, naturally she hugged him, trying to calm down. She hadn't signed up for this; what the fuck was happening?

Just as that happened, they both were yanked out of each other's holds forcefully; Veronica screamed and tried shaking the foreign feeling of a person grabbing her hand and pulling her out of the most relaxing space she could ever be in. As soon as Seb felt a hand getting around his arm, he shoved it, not caring who was being hurt; he held Veronica's left hand tightly, panic filling him, his first instinct to get Veronica out of danger if there was any.

They both put up a great fight, trying to get out of the holds of the two unknown people; heavy breaths and soft sniffles from the couple could be heard before two hands slithered up both of their faces, a cloth covering their mouths, and they fell unconscious.
