I am one of the only two in the senior band who play the second baritone part and I'm the only one playing the baritone horn in the senior band (as far as I know)
As a second baritonist I rarely get solo parts and when I do they're in big pieces that have multiple soloists, instead I mainly get parts where I'm keeping the beat/tempo of the music for an example: we play a piece named 'ABBA goes brass' which is, as the title suggests, a piece full of ABBA songs. I mainly keep the other players in time until the middle of 'I have a dream' where myself and the other second baritonist (he plays a saxophone) have part of the melody.
It also happened when I was in the junior band, when we played 'The bear necessities' I'd get the melody part in the middle of the piece for a few bars and then go back to keeping the tempo.
Although I don't do many solo parts, playing the baritone and doing second baritone parts is really fun! I wouldn't give it up for the world.
