"BEEP BEEP BEEP" My alarm clock blared. I sat up in bed and groggily reached over and pressed Off. Today was August 24th, the first day of school. The first day of school! I jumped out of bed excitedly, and ran over to my closet to find something to wear. "Mom?" I called downstairs."Yes sweetheart?" She called back.
"What is the weather like today?" I asked.
"Around 79 degrees, the usual," She responded. I decided to go with a floral skirt, white Converse High Tops, and a teal T-Shirt with ruffles around the neck. For school I dress nice, but on the weekends, you will usually see me in something more comfortable.
After getting dressed and washing my face, I walked down the hall to Arabella's room. Arabella is my sister, and she turns 2 in 3 weeks. "Where's my Belle-Belle?" I asked walking into the room. She giggled and reached her arms up to me.
"Uppie, uppie!" I picked her up and twirled her in the air before carrying her downstairs for breakfast.
"Good morning girls!" Mom said, smiling at us warmly.
"Good morning mom," I replied before setting Arabella in her high chair. "What's for breakfast?" I asked.
"Blueberry pancakes with whipped cream, your favorite. I thought I could make you something special for the first day of eighth grade."
"Thanks!" I said, excitedly. "Do you want me to get the cereal for Belle?" I asked.
"That would be great, thank you." Since dad had started working more shifts at the hospital, I had to help mom with breakfast sometimes, and that was fine. After getting a bowl of Cheerios with peaches for Belle, I sat down to eat my breakfast as well.

I had just finished getting ready and packed my final spiral in my bag, when the doorbell rang. Swinging my bag over my shoulder, I walked downstairs to greet my best friends, Clarissa and Kassidy (A.k.a.- Claire and Kass). Claire had been on a trip touring Europe all summer, so I hadn't gotten to see her! Claire's family gets to travel a lot because her mother works for Crosby's airport. Also, her father inherited a lot of money from his parents. Basically what i'm try to say here is that, well, they're rich. Kass, her mom owns the clothing shop down the block, and her father is in Africa as a safari guide right now.I ran down the stairs and hugged my mom. "Bye sweetie, I love you, do your best!" She said.
"I will mom, I promise. I love you too!" I said, before going to answer the door.
"Liza!!" Claire embraced me into a tight hug. I hugged her back and peered over her shoulder at Kass, who waved at me cheerily. When Claire let go, I hugged Kass, and off we went to school. Kass dressed in a boho sort of way, and Claire in a casual, carefree way, despite the fact that she could have any clothes she wanted.
Once again, Claire, Kass, and I, had some of our classes together. First, I had choir with both of them. Setting down our backpacks in the choir room, we grabbed our music folders and found our designated spots on the risers. Kass, of course, was in the front row. She has always been amazingly talented when it comes to singing. Unfortunately, she was sitting next to Alexa. Alexa had always been the most popular girl in school, ever since kindergarten since she walked in with a Coach bag in super overpriced clothing. She was well known for also being the meanest. Claire and I were on the third row, which happens to be the last. Alexa appeared to be opening her mouth to speak, but Mr. Luis walked in.
"Welcome back students! I hope you had a great summer!" Mr. Luis said.
"Thanks Mr. Luis!" Everybody responded. And so school began, and so far, it was great.
After this came English, Language Arts, Algebra, Science, Spanish, and then U.S. History. I took Spanish because my parents thought it would be a good idea. Kass took art, and Claire took Home Ec. Finally, we all met up again in athletics. Tryouts would start soon and we would be split up, but for now, we were all together. I was going to be trying out for soccer, Claire for track, and Volleyball for Kass. We had free time in athletics, and then we all changed and walked to the Better Batter Bakery for a cupcake.
The Better Batter Bakery was my mom's business. She worked there from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM. This morning, however, she stayed home later to make sure the first school morning was a go. Anyway, the reason it was called the Better Batter Bakery, is because my mom uses all organic ingredients. It's like a farm to table bakery. There are 50 different types of cakes, cupcakes, muffins, breads, and cookies to choose from. Mom also does coffee, refreshing drinks, tea, hot chocolate, and different ciders. I got a red velvet cupcake and a raspberry lemonade, Claire a double chocolate chip and an iced coffee, and Kass a banana nut muffin with hibiscus tea.
"Thanks Mrs. Lacey," Claire and Kass said to mom.
"Anytime girls." She said. I hugged and thanked my mom, promising her that I would tell her all about my day when she got home, and left. The three of us got to the stop-sign outside of my house, and we went our different ways.
------
"Thanks Mrs. Faye," I said. "See you tomorrow?" I asked."Absolutely dear." She replied before grabbing her purse and heading out. Mrs. Faye was Arabella's nanny until I got home. She was retired and lived down the street from us.
"Hey Belle-Belle!" I said, scooping up Arabella and hugging her. "How are you girlie?" She just giggled and played with my hair. I set her in her bouncy chair and went to open the back door. "Come on in Reese!" I said clapping my hands. A dirty Cocker Spaniel ran up to the door, wagging his tail. "Hi baby!" I said, brushing the dirt off him. Finally, I sat down and relaxed. It felt good to be back in the normal schedule. I guess I didn't expect my normal schedule would be completely stirred up in just a couple weeks.
