Robin and I return to the De Noir castle just as everyone else is standing to leave. Hand in hand. I know instantly that it is clear, and everyone knows. Especially as I make eye contact with Loveday and she gives me the brightest smile.
"Maria...Robin...something you need to tell us?" counters uncle Benjamin. Speaking slowly and with enunciation.
For once Robin is speechless, and I know I'm the one that's gonna have to say something.
"Robins asked me to be his date to your wedding, Uncle. I said yes."
Robin looks at me with a half shocked, and half impressed look.
"Buu but Maria, just this morning you called him... what was it.. an arrogant so and so? And you never wanna see him again? What's changed?" asks Digweed with pure curiosity, but I know everyone else wants to know as well.
Robin looks towards me, his eyebrows raised in a look that says, "oh really?"
I ignore him and just answer their question.
"I understand their may be confusion. But isn't that what love is? Uncle Benjamin, if I never would've sent you guys those letters and gotten you two together just yesterday it just so happens... you wouldn't be getting married would you? I think I've slowly fallen in love with him since I arrived. I can't explain it. Like it's destiny or something. Yes he drove me crazy, but it was never hate, even if it sounded like it was."
When I finish my peace, I realize everyone's quiet for a moment. But then I realize Robin is full on looking at me. An incredulous look on his face, as if I had hurt spoken in tounges.
"You love me?" He says the quietest I've ever heard him speak.
When I nod, he looks away with a smile. I know he's just dying to kiss me this very second.
"I feel the same way. Nothing to be done. It's how we feel." Robin says, looking at me with a smile, squeezing my hand tighter.
Theirs another pause, and then as if on cue everyone says "okay then" all at once. It's as if all we said was deep in the past, everyone begins chatting once more.
Robin pulls me away from the dining room and I feel my heart race as he takes me somewhere quiet. We make it to what looks like the library, and he backs me towards the wall near what seems to be the history books. Without a word, he kisses me, this time without any hesitation.
When he breaks away, we're both breathing hard.
"Wow." I whisper.
"Wow." He repeats, but with a toothy grin.
