Chapter 006: The Closet is Glass

Days passed and it was time for the dance. Maeve and Kioshi were getting ready in their shared dorm room. Maeve was busying herself with putting on a deep red eyeshadow to match her suit and some black eyeliner. Kioshi was attempting to curl her hair, frowning when the curls didn't come out how they were supposed to. Maeve noticed Kioshi's struggle and went over to help her, not too long after she started Silas burst through the door, wearing a forest green suit and a panicked look on his face.

"What's wrong Silas?" Kioshi asked as Maeve didn't make herself a part of the conversation, but instead focused on not burning Kioshi's hair.

"You guys aren't even dressed yet?!" Silas exclaimed looking at the two girls' attires, Maeve in her sweats and Kioshi in her silk pajamas.

"There's an hour left until the dance starts, calm down Silas," Kioshi said, attempting to calm the boys' nerves.

"I have to leave an hour early to practice with the band! I wanted you guys there to support me if I sound bad" Silas said, Kioshi only now noticing the drum sticks sticking out of his pocket.

"There are only a few mute people, so very few people will know if you're good or not." Kioshi half-joked in another attempt at calming him down.

"You know us deaf people can still feel the vibrations right? The only reason we like music." Silas said.

"I know Silas, I'm only trying to calm you down," Kioshi said as Maeve finished with her hair.

"alright what were you two talking about?" Maeve asked looking between the two.

"Silas is nervous" Kioshi said admiring her hair in the mirror.

"Does this have something to do with a certain date of yours?" Maeve asked in a teasing tone.

"No! I have to go rehearse, I'll see you guys at the dance!" Silas said before bolting out the door.

"I was only kidding," Maeve said with a slight frown on her face "I hope he didn't take me seriously. Or worse, actually have a crush on Asahi."

"What would be wrong with him having a crush on Asahi?" Kioshi asked, turning in her seat to look at the girl.

"The guy is an ass. He would without a doubt hurt him. The only reason they're even going to this dance is that Asahi wants to look good for his friends." Maeve said and Kioshi frowned slightly.

"He wasn't always like that, somewhere deep down Asahi has the ability to care for Silas the way he deserves, the way they both deserve." Kioshi said.

"Your ability to see the best in people never fails to amaze me" Maeve said genuinely.

"Let's get dressed." Kioshi said before getting up to head to the closest.

At the dance...

Maeve and Kioshi were dressed and ready, Kioshi's long purple hair, (with visible dark brown roots reaching her ears), had been curled and fell down her shoulders. She was wearing the pale pink dress she had got days before and was wearing white flats. Maeve's pink dreads were tied into a neat bun on top of her head and she had on her deep red suit with matching eyeshadow and black lipstick. They made their way down the hallway toward the dance.
