"Just another day as a slightly broke college student, flipping flapjacks." You smiled, answering a customers question about how your day was going. You eyed an oddly alone boy about your age sitting at a booth by himself. You smiled to the customer you were serving before walking over to him.
"Hi! My name is (Y/N), what can I-"
"Waffles and your number. I- I mean, No, I-I-" he stuttered frantically.
"One stack of waffles and my number, got it. Coming right up!" You smiled before skipping off to the kitchen. "One stack, seperate syrup from Jacks, no dressing or fruit!" You called into the ordering window. A cook hollered back got it and you went back to the boy's table.
"What's a sweet little thing like you doing working here?" His voice was almost distorted. "I- I mean, d-do you *tic* w-work here? Well, I know you work here *tic* but, are you a-always h-here?" His normal, unsure voice returned.
"Well, yes I work here, and no, sadly. Only part time." you smiled.
"P-please, sit down." he smiled up at you, his lower face covered by a bandanna like cloth. You smiled and sat, observing the boy. You had to admit, he was very attractive; messy brown hair, big, bright brown eyes, perfect bone structure, and from what you could tell through his jacket, relatively fit.
"I- I'm Toby. You'll have to excu-use my *tic* well, that." he smiled.
"No, no! It's fine. It's pretty adorable, really." You smiled. You spotted his empty coffee mug. "Oh, can I get you more coffee?"
"PLAIN STACK! T 7! COOOOME AND GET IT!" A chef called from the kitchen.
"Oh, I'll be right back." You smiled, rushing to the counter. You grabbed the plate and brought it to Toby's table.
"O-oh, th- thank you." He looked down and did what I presume to be cursing himself. "I'll be right back." he huffed, quickly rushing to the front door. You felt nosey following him, but you did it anyway. Once he left, you rushed to the door to see what he was doing. Toby pulled the scarf from his face and took in a deep breath. Along his cheek was a large gash that cut through to his teeth. Seeing him pull the scarf back up you rushed back to his table so he wouldn't know you were snooping on him. He spotted you at the table and smiled.
"I'm sorry." he said lowly, his ticking ceased. He quickly ate his waffles, slightly barbaric, and paused, looking down.
"Did I ask you for your number?" he chuckled, blushing. You giggled and nodded. "I am so sorry. I have a thing, long story." he sighed, shaking his head. You placed your hand on top of his on the table and smiled shyly.
"It's fine, really."
"(Y/N)?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? GET BACK TO WORK!" Your supervisor, (R/n), commanded. Toby's face shifted.
"She is working." he shouted, his face seeming not to even move with his words, He smiled at you and continued to look down. You pulled a pen from in your pocket and wrote your name on the palm of his warm, boney hand. His eyes widened as he looked up at you.
"Is this-" You nodded, cutting him off.
"Now, I need to get back to work before the soup chops my head off!" You giggle.
"W-what? Are you s-serious?!" he glared up at you.
"Huh? uh- n-no! not really!" You laughed before scurrying off.

As soon you stepped in the door to your house, exhausted from work, you heard your cell phone ring.
"Hell-"
"(Y/N)?" You recognized the voice, It was that boy from the diner.
"Toby?" you asked, sounding more excited than you'd wanted to.
"Heh, yea, i-it's me. I wish I could talk longer, b-but I'm sort of one my way to work." he was almost whispering into the phone at this point.
"You talkin' to yourself, Tics?" you heard another male voice ask on the other end.
"No, generic shadow with a coat, I'm not." he growled. "Sorry, there's an asshole next to me. heh. *tic*" You giggled. "You have a cute l-laugh." he coughed.
"Aw, thanks Toby."
"Anyway, I just wanted to check on you."
"Oh, everything's fine over here!" you laughed.
"Good. Goodnight, (Y/N)."
"Goodnight, Toby."
