Y/N POV

Y/n Henderson hated school.

Everything about it: The classes, the homework, the food, and the list goes on.

If there was one thing she didn't hate about school, it was her friends. She didn't have many, but the ones she had, she cherished. Her best friends, Nancy Wheeler and Barbra Holland, (who they called Barb) were always by her side.

Her bestest (I'm pretty sure that's not a word but whatever.) friend, Johnathan Byers, was there for her no matter what. They'd known each other ever since her and her family moved to Hawkins. He was her first friend and had been her only friend all through junior high until she met Nance and Barb.

The two had drifted apart this past year, though, but y/n still went over to the Byer's every once and a while to help out Ms. Byers and help take care of Will when Jonathan was busy.

There was one other person in her life that y/n constantly had on her mind. Someone she thought barely even knew she existed. (Someone probably swapping spit with her best friend.)

And that was Steve. Steve "The Hair" Harrington. The Steve Harrington. "King" of Hawkins High.

Y/n hated herself for falling for him, but how could she not? His hair, his eyes, his smile, his hair, his face, his hair... Ok you get the point. He was every girl's dream. Although, one particular girl had seemed to snag his attention.

Nancy.

Her best friend. Steve had been y/n's crush since her first day of school in Hawkins Middle School, while Nancy never said anything about him until this year, sophomore year, when she broke the news to her and Barb about Steve and her making out under the bleachers of the basketball court.

Of course, y/n had never told her friends about her crush, so all she could do was support Nancy and hide how she felt by putting on her usual fake smile.

But deep down she still knew. She knew a part of her would always be jealous of Nancy. A part of her would always love Steve Harrington.

November 6, 1983

Y/n met Barb outside her geometry class and the two started walking side-by-side to the cafeteria. They were walking extremely slow, for they were waiting for Nancy to join them, but she still hadn't met them in the spot they always met up at.

"Where is she?" y/n asked, looking over the tops of students heads for their friend.

"Probably making out with Steve again somewhere," Barb mumbled, rolling her eyes with her statement.

"You think so?"

Barb scoffed, "Yeah. I know so. And you know what she said? She said they weren't even together yet. I quote, "they're just making out." Barb held up hand quotations and swung them down in annoyance.

"Hm," y/n said, not knowing what else to say.

"Hey, I'm sorry. I'm just upset with Nance. I hope she knows what she's getting herself into. I mean- what's so incredible about Steve Harrington anyways? (Everything.) We have each other, right?" Barb said putting a comforting arm around her friend's shoulder.
