As we walked slowly to the parking lot Georgia assured Jay she would be just fine to ride home without an escort. After all she was only two roads down in the new apartment complex the city had just built. I gave her a hug and told her I would text tomorrow and started making my way to my 4runner, parked in the back.

Jay walked closely beside me, almost touching as he scanned the lot. I knew he was looking for the three assholes but I'm sure they were long crawled back into whatever swamp they had emerged from.

"So Jay, where are you parked?"   He looked at me and said "near the end, next to that black 4runner." Well I'll be damned Jay how did you know that was my car? He looked to have a tiny wink of a smile on his lips but it was gone as soon as it came. " I didn't, it was the only spot left when I pulled up."

We were walking slowly and were comfortable with the silence between us. I began to wonder what brought him here? And what are the odds we would meet again in such a way. "What brought you to Tally's? I mean you must have drove straight here after the hospital. Weren't you tired after all that, or better yet didn't you want to get home to take a shower? You still have dried blood on that shirt.  Didn't you want to change before going out on the town?"

" To answer your questions, I didn't feel the need to change, blood doesn't bother me. I don't have a home here or a hotel, I am just passing through. And I definitely don't consider this as a night out on the town. To be entirely honest with you, I heard you and Georgia talking about a night cap drink at a place called Tally's. Wasn't hard to find, and with nothing better to do, I figured I would just stop in to have a drink myself and possibly see you once more before I leave."

He just wanted to see me once more. This should have caused the hairs on the back of my neck to rise but I felt oddly at ease with Jay and he was a curiosity of sorts.
So how's that arm of yours? Did you get it all stitched up? I bet I can guess on how you got that in the first place.  With his brute strength and ruthlessness on full display earlier I think I can put two and two together for this one.

"Yes, Nicole, I was able to get myself all fixed up. Here, take a look."  He rolled up his sleeve and it had been stitched nicely. Oddly enough it looked to be healing quite well, definitely not like it had been an open gash all of a few hours ago.

" So I'll just follow you home ok, nothing more just want to make sure you make it home safely."
"Why, such a gentleman Jay. If I didn't know better I'd say you were a man after my own heart."

Mmm sounds like the ol hoes looking to make an appearance tonight after all. Or maybe thats just the whiskey talking... who's to say.

I looked over at the car next to mine and my legs about gave out. "Damn Jay you didn't tell me you drove this!" It was a black Chevelle, 1968, smooth as it gets. And a sure fire way to any girls heart.  He started it up and it purred like a kitten. Good God this man was an inigma. How in the fuck was I lucky enough to stumble across him tonight.
I set my bag in my front passenger seat and started it up. I walked around the back of my car and took another look at Jay's fantastic machine.  "I must say this car is an absolute dream! Not only is it beautiful, it sounds brand new! How long have you had it?"

"This car was purchased new right off the line back in 1968. It's been well taken care of and loved since the day it was bought. I have other cars but this ones always been my favorite."
Taking a quick look at my watch I notice it's past 3am. I haven't been out this late  in some time. As much as I wanted to scold myself for being up way past my usual bedtime I was excited to see what more fate has planned for me.

Well Jay, I just live down the road a ways, it's a nice little spot out in the county. "Alright Nicole, lead the way"
Yes sir Mr. Jay....lead the way I shall.
