Her and her brother grew up with a loving mother. They never knew their father. Right before they left for Camp Half-Blood their mother had perished in a car crash. James had been in the car when the crash happened he was unhurt, but was unable to help their mother. Akeira was devastated when she heard the news. Before she could even process the news she and her brother were swept away to Camp Half-Blood by her satyr best friend: Louis Holly. Before meeting her significant other Akeira thought about joining the Hunters of Artemis.
