Kazekage Gaara.

His name tastes so unfamiliar in your mouth.

"You shouldn't just call him by his name anymore, (Y/N)." Temari sighs. A hand adorns her hip and she leans her weight to one side. "He's Kazekage now, I think you should address him as so."

For a moment, you grimace. "But you and Kankuro don't have to."

"Sometimes we do, but we are his siblings."

"I'm his best friend!"

"You know, you're much more vocal now that you're older." She arches a brow and a smirk tugs her lips. Amused is what Temari is, not a common sight to see. So you smile to enjoy the moment with her, your eyes crinkling at the ends.

Being Kazekage had Gaara engrossed in much work, so much so that he even had a schedule. Usually, if you were lucky you could see him at anytime that wasn't in the evening. As Gaara became more accustomed as the Kazekage, you found yourself spending much more time with Temari. On some occasions, Kankuro would join, only to be kicked out when Temari deemed him too annoying.

There's a silence that accompanies you two, it's like a breath of fresh air. Temari leans against the rails of the Kazekage's office and gives you a teasing stare. "Even though you're older, your feelings towards Gaara haven't seemed to change."

"I love him, as a friend." You say, also leaning against the railing.

Temari curves her brows upward, her lips into a frown. She scoffs, or laughs. Perhaps a mix of both. "Sure."

The sarcasm in her voice makes you chuckle.

"Do you think it's weird that I like him?" You purse your lips, sheepishly. "He's your brother and all, so I know it might be uncomfor-"

She brings a hand up to your face. "And I'm going to stop you right there. It's not weird."

A wash of relief strikes you, the air is lighter and much more easier to breath. For years, there had been a thought weighing and tugging at your consciousness, perhaps the origin of your anxiousness around the sand siblings. So you exhale as though you were letting go any remaining doubts and worries.

"If anything, I'm glad you care for him so much. He's not alone and that's all I could ever want for him. I think he's comfortable around you because you accept him. You talk to him, not because you pity him, not because he's the Kazekage, not because he's a jinchuriki, but because you love him. He needs all the love he can get." Temari's voice is monotone but her words tremble in her throat.

He's not alone.

That much is true.

On the roof of the Kazekage's office, Sabaku no Gaara spends his free time listening to his sister's words.

And Gaara agrees with her.
