Wednesday
Anxiety grew in my stomach, waking me up. I rubbed my eyes wanting to fall right back asleep but I decided to face the day, despite my desires.
I breathed out heavily, shakily getting out of the covers before slipping my slippers on walking over to my desk where I had left my phone turning it in I read the time; 08:45.
My stomach growled demanding for food.
I noticed there were no notifications on my phone. Typical.
I walked out of the door of my room and headed down to Arlo's which was between mine and Ralph's.I knocked softly. Knock. Knock.
And then again after hearing no response, knock knock.
The door opened to a tired Arlo, he opened his mouth to speak but ended up yawning instead, he ran a hand through his hair, "What is it Rue?" He seemed tired. It was a long night last night from what I had heard.
I stayed quiet playing with my hands, I was itching to ask if I was still allowed downstairs as I was unsure if his mother was still here or not.
"Rue, go back to bed. I have my day off today, I want to sleep." Arlo said, turning back into his room, about to close the door but I stepped inside.
Finally gaining the courage to speak, "How was your mother?" He turned, his shoulders slumped slightly.
"A nightmare."
"Does she know I'm here?"
He paused, contemplating whether to tell me or not, "Go back to bed Rue."
"She knows? I'm not tired. I'm hungry." My stomach growling to confirm.
He closed his eyes briefly, leaning against the doorframe, "Ralph told her. She got pissed. We had to kick her out the house before she attempted anything."
There was a pregnant pause. Arlo breathed in, rubbing his eyes, he sighed heavily, you could tell he was stressed out about his mother, "Give me five minutes and I'll get you food."
I smiled, waiting as he ventured back into his room and true to his word he appeared at the door wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt, unusual to his formal attire, he took me down the stairs saying hello to Andrea who seemed tired as well.
"Andrea, mi dispiace tanto per il comportamento di mia madre. Spero tu stia bene." (Andrea, I'm so sorry for my mother's behaviour. I hope you're alright.) Arlo had softly spoken, sadly smiling down at her. She smiled sadly in appreciation and nodded.
"I've just finished making breakfast, do you think you'll be able to call down the rest of you?" Andrea asked.
As if it was Christmas, Arlo smiled brightly, running to the kitchen. I stood there in confusion until he returned with a pan and wooden spoon, to which he gave to me. He ordered me to wait at the top of the stairs.
I followed as he quickly ran upstairs. Wasn't he just tired? As I got to the top of the stairs he was coming from the hallway to the right of me where I hadn't gone yet, in his hand was a trumpet.
