persuasive essay

introduction

- for fictional narratio: when ur addressing the situation, focus on the setting that the story takes place on, the backgrounds of the character(s) your focusing on. when ur addressing the actions, discuss the plot, what the characters do (related to ur thesis)

- for non-fictional narratio: when addressing the situation, look at the time period and the culture. include some relevant history too, to help contextualise what ur discussing. when u address actions, analyse the moral groundings, as not doing so can leave harmful assumptions unchallenged. when going thru the event(s), try to be objective as u humanly can.

- for ur thesis: make it something reasonable, nothing like "killing is bad" (something i've heard   :,) ), don't be vague! be hyper-specific if u need to! use charged language

refutation

- for counter-proof: use reasonable counter-arguments that people would actually use (nothing super-weak), and don't avoid obvious arguments

- for inadequacy of proof: use strong language! but don't make fallacious attacks, secede what's correct (if any of it is), but don't empower the opposing arguments

conclusion

- for amplification: add as much as u need to! make it a separate paragraph if u need! go wild!!

comparison essay

introduction

- for describing the background: [look at the non-fictional narratio section above]

- for comparison thesis: think of things that stand out to you in the two subjects you're comparing, and then compare what stands out. think of central themes your subjects have, and how they relate/contradict. do you have a preference for one? why? what makes one better than the other? use this to construct your thesis, as well as the advice given above!

- for your themes: try to choose themes that relate to each other (if you can), as it makes the essay come together a lot easier, and gives it a better flow. don't choose insignificant themes, and make sure it relates to your topic. make sure that ur themes are significant for both subjects!! it makes things easier and makes ur essays better.

themes

when discussing ur subjects individually, make sure that what you're talking about is brought up with both and both have strong examples! make sure they're parallel

when discussing them together, unify their individual traits and reflect on either their differences or similarities. make sure that these are relations that are easily understood and not related through vague reasoning, or ur audience won't grasp the connect.
