Chapter 3: Searching.
(Madeline's pov still)
As Madeline cookie started thinking of how he would track down the Winged one, he figured he may as well start by looking in the old village. As he started walking towards the forest near the sea, he realized one flaw in his plan. I have no idea where the village is… Madeline thought to himself. His father, custard, knew, but there was no way to contact him and his mother, Grand Madeline, since the winds were too harsh to send a letter. Speaking of the winds, he should probably not be standing in the snow. It was starting to get late, being around 5 pm, and the commander decided to walk into the nearby Cafe where he could brainstorm more on how to find the winged cookie. As soon as he enters the doors of the Cafe, he was hit with a burst of warmth and the scent of coffee and baked goods. There weren't many cookies in the Cafe except for the bartender(no kidding) and Espresso cookie, working on grading papers in the corner. Espresso cookie. Espresso cookie! Madeline thought. He probably knows where the old village is! After he ordered and paid for his latte, he walked over to where the bitter cookie sat in the corner, to engulfed in his books to notice the knight commander approach."Hello Espresso Cookie!" Madeline started, stopping in front of the coffee cookie's table as Espresso looked up in suprise. "Long time no see, my friend! I hope you have been doing alright!"
"Oh great…" Espresso muttered under his breath, as he looked at the cookie now waiting for a response. The brown haired cookie had dark bags under his eyes and was likely on his 5th or 6th cup of pure espresso. "Hello Madeline Cookie. May I help you?"
"Actually, yes!" Madeline replied. "A winged one showed itself today, and I was wondering if you were aware of the location of the old village?" This seemed to get the coffee cookies full attention.
"They were?" Espresso said, taken back. This wasn't what he was expecting. He was expecting Madeline to tell him to sleep or not work as much, but this subject got his attention. "What did they look like?" He started.
'Ah. Right.' Madeline said to himself. He forgot that Espresso always had a certain interest in winged ones ever since he met a coffee sugar one as a kid.
"Well, they were wearing a mask, but they had white wings. An impressive wingspan as well, actually!" Madeline thought aloud, as he recalled the cookies' appearance. After she lost her coat, she was only wearing a t shirt. I wonder if she's alright in this harsh weather? Madeline thought to himself. Wait, what am I thinking? She's the enemy, Madeline!"Interesting, I wonder why they wore a mask?" Espresso questioned, interrupting Madeline's train of thought. "I've always wanted to see an adult Winged Ones wingspan…"
"Well, that's beside the point," Madeline said. "I was going to look for her so I can...erm...crumble her before my parents get back so they don't have to deal with it,"
This was half true. Yes, he didn't want his parents to defeat the winged cookie, but only because he wanted to prove himself to his father, Custard. (give your kids a break custard)"...Well, I may know," Espresso sighed, before finishing the rest of his coffee. "Though I do have a question. How did this winged one get so far without you being able to catch her?"
"She somehow teleported, actually," Madeline replied, remembering as the cookie disappeared in a flurry of feathers. "I was able to find one of her feathers though," he stated as he took out the feather shard and put it on the table. Espresso immediately picked it up, flipping it over in his hand and looking at the line texture engraved in the crystal.
"Interesting..!" The coffee mage started. "I've never seen a crystal feather this pure of white!"
"I see, you can keep it if you wish!" Madeline said, smiling. "Do you possibly have a map leading to the village?"
Espresso considered asking to go with, but the mage had much too much work to catch up on. Plus, Madeline would probably annoy him with all of his "great stories" and "victories". He pulled out a book from his bag, pulled out a page, and handed it to the commander. "Please return this," Espresso said firmly. "Now if you excuse me, I must be getting back to my work".
Madeline looked the map over quickly, making a mental note of the fastest route he could take. "Thank you, friend!" Madeline said with a smile. "I must be leaving now, but please make sure not to overwork yourself and get some sleep!"
"No promises," espresso sighed. "I wish you a good journey,"
As Madeline left, espresso went to get another cup of coffee from the front. That idiot… he thought with a smile.

As Madeline trekked through the snow, wind whipping his blonde hair all over the place, he looked down at the map. I should be almost there…, He thought. As if on cue, he started to see the remains of houses up ahead. The wind almost seemed to slow, and it got to a steady speed where he could walk around without being pushed back. He unsheathed his sword, and his Shields rose higher behind him."Winged One!" He shouted, looking around. "Show yourself!"
"..."
No response, only the slight rustling from the trees. As Madeline ventured deeper into the abandoned village, he started to notice something strange. Healthy, thriving, white roses at occasional trees, tied in little bundles.
"What the…?" Madeline muttered. How could these be living in this condition? As he neared the middle of the village, he saw a large tree with many of the white roses, but this bunch also had small vanilla orchids around it. The smell of vanilla was almost overwhelming. A single sword was laid in the snow, a gold tipped silver blade with a light brown ribbon wrapping it. As the Commander bent down to grab the strange sword, he suddenly felt something price his neck, slowly sinking in.
"What?!" Madeline exclaimed. Before he could look around to see the figure in the trees watching him,, he collapsed, leaving an unsettling silence over the area.
1066 words- naur the Madeline is unconscious!
