No light was perceived throughout the night since it was the new moon. The evening breeze fluttered the grass and blew against the castle walls. The castle was sleepless even in the midst of the night. The boy and the elf stood far from the castle's entrance. The elf posed upright while the boy sat on the grass, looking very weary. The elf surveyed the castle walls. The boy stared at him with displeasure.

The boy asked, "Aren't you tired? I meant after what we've been through?". The elf answered without glancing back at him, "Inside the castle, it is where we can rest. A refuge can be found underneath the chapel, located in the eastern district." The boy then finally understood the situation, as reflected on the expression on his face. His eyelids felt very heavy. Shortly after, he gave up and fell asleep. As the night went on, the boy slumbered throughout while the elf who was calm continued to assess the castle. As the castle was a matter of fact known for being heavily guarded. The elf was dumbfounded by the number of guards he discerned.

He was speculating that they would be inconspicuous during the night time. The elf thought that their chance of getting into the castle was at midnight. He undertook the boy to arise but it was hopeless for the boy was in deep slumber. To leave the boy behind was never an option and neither, waiting for him to be awakened. He carried him on his shoulders like a sack and pursued his plan. The elf waited for the wall guards to change positions. And then, he ran towards the side of the castle wall and peered left and right as he ensured that it was safe for him to throw a rope over the wall.

After he secured the rope tightly, he climbed up the wall.  He intended to cast a spell of invisibility on himself so that he could not be detected when he entered the castle. But when he was about to set the spell, a guard noticed him. "Hey, you there!" the guard shouted. It alarmed all his subordinates. The elf cast his magic fast and jumped over the wall and onto a roof. Many guards followed him but he became invisible. The guards lost him.

However, the elf realized that the guards were aware of his existence inside the castle. Probably, the guards would begin their search for him shortly. While remaining focused on his main concern, finding refuge, he started leaping from one roof to another directed to the chapel. When he reached his destination, he went to the back of the chapel, where a basement door covered with mud could be found. It leads to an underground basement. The place seemed that it was stopped by often. The elf laid the boy down and gently removed the dirt covering the door.

He opened it quietly. He carried the boy on his shoulders again. After he entered the door, the elf locked it from the inside to assure that no one would enter unnoticed by him. Finally, after the elf had reached the refuge, he felt his body become heavy. He laid down the boy and sat beside him. The elf had not rested throughout a very tiring day so he no longer had the strength to move or think further. His eyelids were already heavy so he was unable to resist the drowsiness.

Morning came, as the sun rose and the roosters clucked to greet the onset of a new day. The market vendors began luring noisily to their prospective consumers. As for the guards, they searched endlessly for the intruder. The day had begun once again, but still, both the boy and the elf were asleep soundly. Many hours had passed. The sun had reached its peak. The boy who was sleeping soundly was suddenly disturbed by crowd noises that became louder.

His body was still heavy from sleeping and his head throbbed as if it would burst. As he arose,  he glimpsed the strange surroundings around him. The place was unfamiliar so he surveyed the place and he saw the elf lying beside him. He stood up and wandered around the place to look for something to drink. He failed to find a drink. He glanced at the elf then approached and sat down beside him. He tried to awaken the elf but still, with a tired voice "Hey, you awake?".

The boy sighed deeply then he stood. He paced around the room with boredom. Hours had passed but the elf remained asleep. The boy was sweating profusely while his throat began to feel dry and he was suffering from dehydration. He asked, unknown to him that they were in a basement.
