Author: therealkayelle
I found Kay through Wattpad Feature List and god damn does she deserve to be there.
I have read two of her books and both are such distinct works of art yet equally wonderful.
The One Knight Stand: (Now a Paid Story!)
I started reading The One Knight Stand because I am a sucker for one night stand stories- it just ticks a lot of romance boxes for me (even though I probably wouldn't ever do it in real life).
However, the title is a little misleading because the book is not about that trope at all. Was I sad though? Absolutely not because what this story did offer me was more than I could have ever dreamt of.
Its a long story with lots of bits and pieces coming together to tell the story of two brave, courageous and hot people who fell so hard in love that they brought me down with them too.
Kay's writing style goes so well with the story. I really loved the way she portrayed the inner contemplations of the characters. I remember crying, laughing and mourning for and with the characters because Kay left no literally device untouched, ensuring the readers were well-emersed in the story.
It's been a few months since I read this book but I while I don't remember the minute details of the story, I can recall the gist, but my heart remembers the feeling well. Her writing left a lasting impression on me.
Set in a fantasy land with princes, knights, wars and dragons, the story had such a strong hold on me that after reading it, I literally struggled to let go. I'll probably visit this story again and I hope you do too.
One Million Masks: (Becoming a Paid Story!)
I recently finished reading One Million Masks and I have to say- the book was something else.
I always thought that books that went back forth in the timeline would be hard to grasp but the minute you let the book immerse you, it drowns you in itself.
I felt so comfortable shifting povs and time periods simply with the way Kay let subtle differences cue the reader into the change and keep them floating with the words.
Other than that, the emotional display was another achievement. I was so connected to the characters- I felt their deepest pains and desires in my gut.
At first, I went into this book with an idea of how the story could go but, as I told before for The One Knight Stand, Kay has a way to surprise the reader.
Never did I think I would go from manically enjoying the sociopath's obsession to rendering my heart to the couple as they went back and forth from hate to love to hate.
I went into the story thinking it would be one of those books where I am screaming into the pillow from excitement and blushing red from embarrassment. But no, here I am crying for the hardships the characters go through, heart aching for them.
Hell, I had to take a week-long break from the book because it was so good at pulling my heart strings.
Why? Well, angst has always been my kryptonite for books. I just love it. I don't think I have ever felt like an author has failed to supply angst if they go for it but, man, Kay really went above and beyond.
Other than that, there is of course the plot. If a book has shown up in my recommendations to you, then it definitely has an intriguing and innovative plot. This book was about a hero and a villain, about love and obsession, about betrayal and loyalty, about insanity and sanity.
There are so many tiny details I can pick up and gush over in One Million Masks but each compliment would end up being a spoiler so I am going to stop here. But, holy shit was this book marvelous.
Note:
~ R-rated works
~ The One Knight Stand is now a paid story! (I am so happy for you, Kay)
~ One Million Masks is on the way to become a paid story too! Any day now.
Enjoy!
