I wrote down the last of my class notes when the chair next to me moved. Glancing from the corner of my eye, I saw Dante sit down and drop his books on the desk. Of course, the coolest guy in our school HAD to be sat next to plain ol'me. I suppose it was a punishment for him. Still, having him so close, maybe even acknowledging my existence...? I should stop staring already...

It didn't take long before  I heard something being slid across the desks. A slip of paper, bearing a message. For me...? I decided against my better judgement to read the note.

You look like my next girlfriend

That's... direct. I felt my cheeks grow warmer at the thought. It's easy to imagine myself being with him, but I'm also fairly certain someone as popular as Dante wouldn't come near someone as boring as me. I mean, he's every girl's dream guy: tall, dark and handsome, with a mischievous smirk and quick wits surely to piss off authority figures and capture the hearts of all girls in existence. I realized with a start that I had been zoning out. I quickly scribbled something response.

... maybe ask for my name first. It's Jane.

I only slid it over a little before Dante snatched it up. I wondered what he thought of my cold reply. Maybe he'd think I'd be hard to get, and come to pursue... That's a stupid fantasy. Of course not. Yet, it didn't take long for him to sneak the paper back to me.

Sorry doll

you got some time after this to help me out?

Just then, the teacher decided to call on me. "Can you solve this, then? Or are you too busy passing love notes?" Before he could grab it, Dante stuffed it in his mouth and swallowed. The teacher stared in disbelief. Dante returned the stare with a confident smirk. "Honestly..." the teacher sighed while walking back to the front again. "I assume you aren't going to answer my question then, Jane. I'll do it myself." When he picked up his lesson again, I tried to concentrate to no avail. My thoughts kept fluttering back to Dante so bravely eating our little scrap of paper. Would he be alright, though? What if he fell ill... I'd definitely have to ask him ou- at lunch. Just to make sure.

The class had flown by and before I knew it, the bell rang for lunch period. I turned towards Dante, but to my surprise, he was already turned to me.

"So I did pique your interest after all", he said.

"Isn't your stomache going to hurt?" I asked to avoid his line of conversation. Of course he did. He's the epitome of bad guy, and I like any high school, he had flocks of girls vying for his attention. Oh, stop daydreaming already!

"... so yeah, it's all good. Anyways, 'bout the help I was askin' for", he started.

"Wait, what help?" I asked panicking. What would he need MY help for, of all people?!

"Was about to tell you, sweet cheeks", he chuckled, "but I need help with that stupid maths homework. You're like, the only one who actually gets this guy's rambling, soooo... please help us math commoners?"

"Math commo- what, why would you-" I stammered, my cheeks flushing red. Did they really think that highly of little ol' me...?

"Don't worry honeybun, you won't be in front of the class. Just let me in on those juicy maths secrets today, after school. Meet you at the gates?" I could only nod before he got up, presumably to eat lunch with his clique.

This is insane. Plain ol' me got invited to Dante's house?? Sure, it's only for studying and nothing will actually happen... right?
