A Song for You

Chapter 1: Prelude

"Shin Hye-yah, Shin Hye-yah..!" A loud voice calling her name awakened her from her nap. She was at the corner of the kitchen, sitting on a chair with her head resting on her right arm on the table. It was Lee Yu-bi.

"Wae?" Shin Hye asked softly while rubbing her eyes.

Yu-bi pouted upon hearing her question. "Aishhh. Wae? Is that all you can say? What do you think you are doing? Sleeping soundly at this very hour? Are you out of your mind?"

Shin Hye was appalled when Yu-bi started to bombard her with questions, then she looked at her watch. It was 11:05 in the evening. She stood up from her seat and stretched both of her arms. "Hmmmm, this felt so good."

Yu-bi looked at her with a confused expression. Shin Hye smiled at her. "Take it easy, Yu-bi. I was just taking a nap. I haven't had enough sleep last night. I couldn't even sleep this morning because as you know, today is Wednesday, I work part time at the bookstore, remember?"

Shin Hye has three jobs. She works in a small restaurant as a waitress and sometimes a dishwasher from Monday-Saturday , 3:00 PM until 11:00PM. She also has a part time job on a bookstore every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. On Saturdays, she works as a cashier reliever at a convenience store nearby from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NN. Sunday is the only day of the week that she can rest, but unfortunately she still can't lie on her bed and sleep all day. She has to do her laundry and grocery shopping.

"I'm so aware of that, but we still have a lot to do, and sleeping... or should I say taking a nap is not on the list. And besides when Mrs. Jung caught you AGAIN, then you're really dead."

Mrs. Jung is the owner of the restaurant. She is very nice to the customers but rude to her employees especially to Shin Hye as she's often caught taking a nap before her shift ends.

"But she left early, and I heard that she has an appointment tonight. I'm sure she went straight home after that." Shin Hye said and then laughed. "I'm like a cat, am I right? Oh, I'm better than a cat. Cats, as they say, have nine lives. I have more. I've been caught for so many times, that makes me dead for so many times, but look at me, I'm still here."

"Aigoo. How can you still joke around like that? You might get fired if you still continue to do that. Come, let's clean up, so we can go home. Palli-palli!" Yu-bi said before leaving Shin Hye on the kitchen.

Shin Hye smiled at her but her smile faded when she was already out of sight. She knows that Yu-bi was right. She will surely lose this job if she will be caught sleeping again. Mrs. Jung had already warned her last week, and she seemed serious this time.

'I can't lose this job. I badly need this job. I have to pay my rent. I have to save money for my dreams.' She thought. She let out a deep sigh, then followed Yu-bi at the restaurant's dining area to clean up.

A black car was parked outside SUKIRA, a large popular music bar in Seoul. Inside was a half-drunk man sleeping on the steering wheel.

He was startled when a man knocked on his car window. He's trying to figure out who that person is, and when he saw a familiar face, he immediately pushed the button on his side to lower the window.

"Cho Kyuhyun-ssi, annyeong hasimnikka. I'm very sorry if I wake you up. I just need to give this to you. You left your coat inside, and Mr. Jang asked me to check if your car is still around the area, so I can hand this to you," the man said.

Kyuhyun went to Sukira to visit his best friend, Jang Geun Suk. Geun Suk is the manager of the popular music bar. Although he is not the owner, but he sees to it that everything about the bar is properly managed. The owner of the bar is someone really close to him, but the employees do not know of the owner's identity. It was like a top secret. At first, many of the staff speculated that a rich woman in her late 40s owns it and Geun Suk is her lover. Geun Suk was aware of the rumor, but he doesn't give a damn about it. Later on, the rumor just died, probably because no one can actually prove it.

Kyuhyun and Geun suk have been friends since they were in high school. Geun suk is Kyuhyun's sunbae as he is a year older than the latter.

"Ah, that. Thanks," he smiled at the man as he took his coat.

The man left afterwards and Kyuhyun raised his car window. He turned his audio player on and went back to sleep.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Here's chapter 1, guys! It's kinda short, I know. I promise to write a longer one next time. I hope you'll stick with the story until the end.
