Caramel Sunshine

Introduction

I held his hand as we walked together, feeling the wind as it brushed the curls around his face. The lights coming through the trees lighting the gold flecks in his hazel eyes.

Serenity. That's what I feel when I look at him. Peace radiating from him, and I knew at this moment, that this is what I wanted forever.

As we sat at the edge of the cliff over looking the valleys of street light below, I imagined the ways I could ever gain the courage to make him mine for the rest of our days.

His hands rested in mine, his breathing slow and eyes closed as he took in the sounds of the woodlands surrounding us, I couldn't help but watch his beauty.

His eyes fluttering open, his mouth turning upwards as he smiled at me gracefully. My heart seemed to stutter at the sight, much as it always has.

"You're staring at me, Luke. I could feel it." He teased lightly. He knew I couldn't keep my eyes off of him.

"Stay with me tonight." I pleaded with him softly. "Please, Ashton."

A look of sadness flashes behind his eyes, the smile slipping from his lips. "I wish I could.." he trailed off.

I turned my attention back to the glow of the city lights, thinking back to all the times over the years and how Ashton would always give me the same response. His reasoning were never to clear to me, never spending one single night together over the course of our two year long relationship seemed strange to me, but Ashton seems content with leaving things as they are now.

The peace I once felt seemed to be slipping away as I processed the thought that we may never be the family that I dreamt of. Dread filling my soul knowing he couldn't commit to a single night together. No matter the circumstance he, always left.

"I will stay with you.. just not tonight. Tomorrow.." he whispered, just loud enough for me to hear.
