Y/n POV

you and Wilbur started meeting up once or twice a week just to hang out. you didn't know if he had feelings for you but it only fueled the hope that he did.

on one of these many days, he surprised you by just showing up at your apartment door.

you had just finished putting away your groceries and were ready to settle down for a movie before eating dinner.

"i have a plan," Wilbur says, staring into your eyes. "do you trust me?"

"why do i feel like if i say yes i'm gonna end up in pieces on the side of a highway?" you grab his outstretched hand and let him lead you outside.

"you'll be fine," he chuckles, peacefully walking out of the building and toward his car.

you follow behind him laughing lightly, "i'm just saying, you're the perfect candidate to become a serial killer. no one would suspect it."

he unlocks the car and opens the drivers side as you stand next to him. as he starts to get in he speaks to you.

"you gonna get in or just watch me?"

"ah," you start embarrassed. "oops."

you make your way over to the other side of the car and climb in.

"so," you say, "where are we going?"

"it's a surprise," he says starting the small vehichle. he glances at you from the corner of his eye. "it wouldn't be a very good surprise if i told you now would it?"

you chuckle softly.

"no i don't think it would."

throughout the drive the two of you talked about different things, including but not limited to what could have come from an art career for you if you had decided to stick with it, why Wilbur is a content creator, and some other not as heavy topics.

you lost track of time as the drive went on to the two hour mark. when Wilbur finally pulled to a stop you glanced around, not recognizing where you were you turned to him confused.

"where in the world are we?" you ask as he only opens the door and hops out.

you climb out of the car and look around the scenery.

you stand in an open field full of wild flowers of differing colors. yellow, purple, pink, you name it and there is a flower that color. you sigh as you take in the amazing view set out before you.

seeing as he drove for so long the sun had started to set casting an orange glow over the place giving it a fantastical glow.

it was then that you noticed a blanket set out among the flowers with a basket sitting upon it.

"what's this?" you chuckle glancing in Wilburs direction.

"just a little picnic," he responds. "i thought it might be fun to stargaze, you had mentioned how much you love the stars before, and wanted you to be able to see them in person."

your face starts to heat up at the implications of what he has just said. he remembered that you said that? that was such an off-hand comment that you had made about seeing the stars and he remembered it?

"oh, wow," you stare at him for a moment before wandering over to the blanket.

sitting down you look toward the sky, the sun had almost fully set and the stars were starting to peek out at you from the blanket of dark blues and purples filling the sky.

feeling a shift in the blanket next to you you look over.

Wilbur hands you a sandwich he had pulled from the basket.

you watch as he continues to pull out various food items from within and places them in some unknown order around him.

"what all did you bring?" you question munching on your food.

"just some snacks, strawberries, blueberries, chocolate pretzels, things like that," he lists glancing up at you before pulling out some wine glasses.

your eyes widen just a fraction.

"planning on getting me drunk now are you?" you chuckle as you take the final bite of your sandwich.

he chuckles with you, "it's for the (flavor) juice that i know you love."

"wait, that's actually so sweet," you say placing a hand over your heart.

"that was the plan," you fail to hear this mumbled by Wilbur.

"hmmm?" you turn your curious gaze from him and back towards the sky where stars are filling up the heavens.

"it's beautiful isn't it?" you question mapping out the few constellations you know with your finger.

"you really are."

"huh?" you look over at him.

you didn't know the two of you had sat so close together until this moment. your faces were inches apart now that he wasn't rifling through the basket. you could feel the warmth from his breath fan across your face. his eyes bored into yours before glancing down at your lips.

the moment was interrupted by the ringing of a phone.

both of you snapped out of whatever had control of you and fumbled around trying to find what was causing the ruckus.

finally locating your phone you found it was your mother who had called you.

"uh, give me a sec, i need to take this," you say glancing up at Wilbur before standing and walking a couple feet away.

Wilbur POV

sighing Wilbur hangs his head in disappointment. he missed his chance dammit.

he was so close to kissing her, closer than he had been before, and it was ruined yet again.

looking up at her he realizes he doesn't care how long it takes, he will take however long is needed to get her to fall for him.

Y/n POV

"hey, sorry about that," you say returning to your place on the blanket.

"what was that about?" he asks politely.

"ah, just her asking if something she had found was mine that i'd left behind," you focus on the stars again. "did you know that the greeks are the ones who named the constellations, i don't know all that much about either but i find it fascinating how we're still affected actively by things a past civilization did. it's like they're always watching over us, our ancestors."

you had failed to realize the love and compassion Wilbur had in his eyes as he was gazing at you. more focused on your face than the words coming from your mouth. you'd always wanted someone who would listen to you talk endlessly without a complaint and now that you had found one you hadn't even realized.

as time passed you slowly grew more and more tired eventually laying down next to Wilbur who had laid down at some point before.

slowly drifting off to sleep you never do realize how much Wilbur has done to get you to this moment of trust. falling asleep next to him under the stars is more than you had thought possible when just a month ago you were watching his streams as a total stranger.
