ᴄʜ. 3- ᴛʜɪs ɪs ᴄʜᴀᴏs

We all stood around Angela in shock as the paramedic attended to her. I stood up with Mike and Will as Jane sat down in a seat nearby. Her leg was shaking and she was holding back tears, her gentle sobs barely audible. I desperately wanted to go and give her a hug and comfort her; I wanted to tell her everything would be okay. But I couldn't. It felt like my legs were glued in place, like if I moved the world would crumble around me.

In the car

"I know this may be, like, upsetting and shit but that future prom queen is gonna be fine. I mean it's just, like, rubber wheels." Argyle said

"Plastic." Jonathan corrected him

"Oh."

"Not like hard plastic. Just.." I stopped listening to Jonathan and Argyle's discussion about what type of wheels the roller skates were. Jane was by the window, then Mike sat next to her. Will was next to him and I was sat by the other window. I laid my head against the window and shut my eyes, wishing that none of this had ever happened.

Why did Angela have to do that? Why couldn't I have been faster? Maybe if I had gotten there-

"Hey, you okay?" Will had noticed my zoning out and turned to face me, I looked at him

"Yeah... I'm okay" I said quietly, but loud enough that Will could hear

"It's not your fault, remember that, okay? It's all Angela's fault. She is the one in the wrong here, not you" He reassured me. I nodded my head and shut my eyes again, faintly smiling to myself. I felt comforted, even in such an uncomforting time.

We walked in the door and I walked behind Mike, with Jonathan behind me. Argyle was behind Jonathan and Jane was at the front, with Will behind her and in front of Mike.

"Mum?" Will called out

We got to the kitchen, and instead of seeing Will's mum, we saw a random guy cooking. I started to panic, but everyone else seemed to be fine.

"Well, well! Aren't you lot a sight for sore eyes, huh?" He yelled out to us

"Hi, Murray" Jonathan waved at him, his name is Murray?

"You kids like risotto?"

"Yeah" Jonathan laughed

We all sat down to eat together, and I sat next to Will. Murray was telling us his story about how he got there but, in all honesty, I was not listening one bit. I was thinking about food and sleeping.

"Business trip? What business trip?" Will said and I came back to reality

"Oh my gosh. I almost forgot to tell you guys. This thing came up at work and it turns out I have to go to a conference tomorrow. In Alaska.

"Alaska?" "Tomorrow?" Mike and Will said at the same time.

"Crazy, right?" Murray chuckled

She's going on a business trip? Damn.

"That's where they're based, the Britannicas. Joan and Brain Britannica"

Then Argyle started going on about Eskimos and I stopped listening. I'd learnt to tune out most of the random shit Argyle says. Will's Mum told Jonathan that he'd be in charge when she was gone and he was really confused, he hadn't been listening.

Mike said something and Jane got up and stormed off. "Hey, aren't you gonna finish your- What?.." Will's mum asked. Will sighed and I laid my head on the table.

"What is going on you guys?" Will's mum asked

"Okay I, uh, I sense tension. Is it the risotto? Everyone hates the risotto?" Murray asked

"Absolutely not. No, it's incredible" Jonathan praised the food and I hummed in agreement

"The risotto is absolutely shmakin', dude" Argyle said

"Still have no idea who he is" Murray laughed

"Okay, uh, what am I doing? Am I staying here or?.." I trailed off at the end, uncertain

"Up to you, do you want to stay over? I'm more than happy to have you?" Will's mum offered, and I turned to look at Will. He nodded his head and I turned back to her.

"Sure, if it's no problem"

"You could stay with Will? We're a little short on room with so many guests." She offered, and I agreed.

"Thank you"
