Chicago, Illinois, 1975
The second we opened the door we were all washed over by a horrendous smell emitting from the room. Clydeth gagged as if she were going to vomit, Maurice stumbled backwards as though he were going to faint and Diego covered his mouth and nose, turned around and took about a dozen steps away from the rest of the group. The smell coming from the room smelled of a mix of human and animal feces, dried up blood and sewer water.
Louis was the first one to walk into the room, covering his lower face with his scarf. With the scarf covering his big lips and wide-flat nose the only thing you could see was his upper face. His light brown eyes, which contrasted his dark brown skin, searched the room
I've known him since I was a baby. His father and mine were best friends all throughout high school and college and just sort of clung to each other. Louis and I were raised like brother and sister. I remember when his father was arrested when he was 10 and I was 7 and he came and stayed with us for two weeks.
I walked in after him, pinching my nose and looking around. We were soon followed by Clydeth and eventually Diego. Maurice was the last person to walk in. He might've actually fainted had Diego not been there to sturdy him.
I dropped my suitcase on the carpet next to the dresser. Clydeth dropped hers next to mine. Her pale, slightly pink, knuckles brushed against mine. She looked at me with her ocean blue eyes eyes and curved her pink tinted lips into a smile. Her honey blonde hair rested peacefully on her shoulders. She walked up to me and wrapped me in a warm hug. Her dainty figure pressed against my body. I felt her soft skin on mine.
She pulled away from me and looked at me, still smiling. "Thank you for inviting me, love." She's always called everyone love.
Louis dropped his suitcase by the bed, Diego dropped his next to the bathroom door and Maurice dropped his next to Diego's.
Clydeth opened one of the windows to try to air out the disgusting smell but nothing seemed to work. Her and Maurice walk into the bathroom to look for some type of spray to get rid of the smell.
I was following close behind them when I jumped back at the sound of an earsplitting scream.
We all ran into the little room where Clydeth was, to see the most horrendous thing a person could ever see.
A body. A very deformed body. With its eyes and throat all ripped out. It's shirt was ripped apart and is stomach was completely cut open. All of its intestines were visible, half of them on the floor spilling out. It's hands were sawed completely off and it's legs were bent in ways no humans legs should ever bend.
Before I realized what I was doing, I ran out of the bathroom and hotel room screaming at the top of my lungs. Close behind me was Maurice, his face contorted in a horrible look, obviously out of terror.
We were two people, running down a empty hallway, screaming at the top of our lungs, at 7:00 at night, in the middle of winter. Obviously people are gonna look to see what's going on. We ran through the entire floor screaming until we got to an elevator, where I was frantically pounding the button, tears streaming down my eyes.
By the time the elevator door had opened, there were about five people running in our direction. We rushed into the elevator. When I was in, I collapsed on my knees and woke up in a cold, white room, with one wondow. It was large and covered almost and entire wall, covered by a window shade.
Everyone was somewhere in the room, Maurice and Diego both asleep, Clydeth sitting on a chair with her eyes bulging out of her head and a blanket wrapped around her while she was shaking and Louis sitting in a corner, biting his lower lip and holding back tears. That's when I remember what happened and let out a horrifying scream causing Clydeth and Louis to scream waking Diego and Maurice.
