Mugman POV:

"Cuphead! We're leaving in ten minutes for work!" I yell from the kitchen, grabbing some quick breakfast and a coffee.

"Coming."

I sit down at the table, quietly drinking my coffee. After my late-night study session last night, I sure need the extra energy. I get lost in thought until cuphead snaps me back to reality.

"Are you coming or what?"

"Huh? Oh. Yeah!"

I get up from the table, quickly finish my breakfast, and start walking to work with cuphead.

"So, how did you sleep?" He asks, we a warm grin.

I don't want to worry him, but I don't want to lie either.

"Fine." I reply quickly, refusing to make eyes contact with him.

I can tell he knows I'm lying, but either he doesn't want to call me out or he just doesn't care.

"So... Get any work done?"

Yep, he knows. Still, it's something to talk about.

"Loads. Gabe has some super cool ideas, and I found some new things in a textbook or two, but of course, have helped me..."

I could see his discomfort with Gabe for some reason, but I decide to ignore it. After all, cuphead has never trusted anybody really. Not since we bet our souls.

"Are you sure this... "Gabe" is who he says he is?"

"Of course! Why wouldn't he be?"

I can see the worry in his eyes, but I'm sure he's just paranoid.

Right?

We turn the corner to our work and pick open the doors.

"Boys! You're one minute late!"

Typical king dice, nitpicking about the smallest things.

"And your suit is one minute out of style." Cuphead snaps back.

"Be nice, cuphead!"

I don't need him getting us fired today.

"Your high school prom king called, and he wants his tuxedo ba-"

"Okay, off to work now, bye king dice!" I yell, quickly dragging cuphead away. What a save.

"Mugman, the boss wants you!" I hear mangosteen yell. He zooms up to me and starts shoving me over to his office.

"Woah! What did I do?"

"Listen, he says it's urgent!"

"Okay, okay, I'm going."

I sigh and quietly make my way up the large staircase to his office.

"Mugman. Sit down."

I pull out the chair across from him and hesitantly sit.

"So... A little birdie told me you want to know how to get your powers back."

I stare at him in disbelief. How the he'll does he know?!

"How do you-"

"Hush. I can help you."

The room goes cold around me as a scroll appears with a quill.

"Forget it, devil! I'm not giving you my soul!"

"Oh, but this is the only way!"

"No... It can't be!"

I slam my fists on the table, catching him off-gaurd for a moment.

"But it is. There's only one other calix animi potion in the world, and look."

He pulls out a potion that looks exactly like the calix animi one.

"No! You're tricking me!"

"A deal's a deal. I get the soul, you get the magic."

"Never!"

I try to run out of the office, only for the door to slam.

"Are you sure? If you don't take my offer your research will be in vain..."

"Stop! Stop talking like that!"

"Fine."

The scroll disappeared and the door opened.

"Please, feel free to come here if you reconsider."

"Thanks gor the offer, but I doubt that will happen."

I run downstairs and quietly return to work, attempting to ignore the words I just heard.
