A dangerous summer ride

Prologue part one

'Truth or dare?' 

I roll my eyes. 

'Are we really going to do this?' 

'Yes it's fun..besides its our tradition!' Nat says.

'She is right Leah. We have been doing this every year since we were like ten' Tilly adds.

'Thats the whole point' I sigh.'Nothing ever changes here'.

I pluck a piece of straw out of the bale that I'm sitting on and throw it next to me. 

Like most Friday evenings, we are sitting in the old barn on Tilly's parents small farm. When she moved here 5 years ago, everyone in town thought they were some strange hippies that wanted to change the world with their organic farm. But they have since then proven to be one of the most successful businesses in town and are very well liked. 

Tilly schrugs.'I like that about us and this town'. 

'Okay so come onnn' Nathalie says. I know she just wants me to hurry up because she is next. 

'Fineee..' another eye-roll from my side.' I choose dare'.

'Yess' Nat claps in her hands from excitement.

I trust Tilly with the dares. I know she will come up with something funny but not something crazy like Nat always does. 

'Mmh okay let me think..' Till narrows her eyes and bits her inner lip. 

Suddenly Nats phone starts buzzing. 

'I thought we had a no phone policy' Till says disappointment en out of her focus.

'Sorryyy' Nat looks at her phone.' Omg it's Joey. I have to answer this'. 

' Oh no'

'Here we go'

'Ssh' Nat pulls her long black curly hair out of the messy bun and presses her lips together before answering the call. 

'Hey'

'Hey! What are you doing?'

'Just hanging out with the girls' 

'Well thats a coincidence because I'm here with the boys. Do you want to hang out all together?'

Nat looks at us, hesitating.' Well we are kind of in the middle of something. It's like our tradition.'

' What is it?' 

'Ehh Truth or dare'. 

'Hahaha okay'

'You like it?' Nat asks. I hate how desperate she sounds to get his approval.

'Well depends on the dares. Who's turn is it?'

Before I can shake my head, Nat turns the camera to me.' Leah'. 

'Hi Leah' 

I wave.' Hi'.

'Dare?' he asks.

'Yes'.

Nat turns the camera back at herself. 'But Tilly is deciding so I don't think it will be too exiting' 

I look at her annoyed. Nat has recently discovered a new way to be liked by boys like Joey; putting others down. I don't even think she notices. 

'Well can we decide?. If Tilly wants to give us her turn obviously'. 

I roll my eyes. Obviously Tilly isn't going to say no.

I answer before she can give in.' I mean it's really just our thing so'.

'Is that Leah? Is she scared' he says laughing.

'Ofcours not' Nat says, looking strict at me.' Shoot'.

'Okay then...I dare Leah to go to that freak house tonight'. 

I look unamused at the camera. Just last week police had to go there because some people where looking around in the old abandoned house. They ran so they never got them. I now have a pretty good idea who those boys were. 

'Or do you believe those ghost stories?'

'I'm not scared. Im just not dumb. I don't want to get arrested'.

Nat looks at me because she knows I just called them dumb. 

Joey sighs. 'You don't have to be there for hours. Just in and out'.

'I will do it' Nat says. 

A moment of silence before Joey agrees. 

'Mmh okay could be fun. Still sad tho that Leah is too scared. But I'm not surprised'.

Nat is too scared I'm going to say something back so she quickly yells that we will see them in an hour. 

'What did you just agree to?' The high pinch in Tilly's voice tells me that she is nervous to even talk about the farm.

Nat waves her arms around. ' I don't know it just came out'. 

'You should really control that more because this is extremely stupid. What if you're dad finds you there? You will be grounded'.

Nathalies dad is the head of the local police force. He specifically warned us to never enter the 'freak' house. Not because of the 'ghost' stories but because its the type of place drug addicts who go or people who just want to trash something. Definitely not the place for three sixteen year olds to be at midnight. 

'Well I have to go' Nathalie says.' Or I will look like a scared little girl'.
