They say that history is written by the victors.
This then a story of the Umbrella Corporation, formed by British scientist, Ozwell Spencer along with his longtime friends Edward Ashford and Dr. James Marcus.
Marcus had a young daughter, Alicia, afflicted with progeria, a progressive and fatal disease that causes premature aging. By the time she was 19, Alicia would had the body of a 9-year-old. Marcus was driving to save her, but the odds seems impossible. Even as he works desperatly to create a cure, the young girl's father would record his daughter, her voice, her likeness, saving her image for posterity.
Until one of his former students, Alexandra Wesker, a young and gifted woman came to him and offered him a solution.
She used her own brother's blood to create a way to save Alicia. Marcus agreed to her terms. Finally, a breakthrough came. Marcus created The Progenitor Virus.
Created from a stable strain of the virus from a rare African flower and the blood of Alex's younger brother.
Once injected, it would detect and repair damaged cells in the body.
It was a miracle.
Alicia had been saved.
The Virus had a myriad application, treating thousand different diseases.
Overnight, it seemed a new era was dawning. A world without fear of infection, sickness or aging.
But it was not to be.
For the Progenitor Virus had certain inforseen side effects.
In the course of his own research, Edward Ashford made a fatal mistake and was infected. He died a painful death in his laboratory. The incident was quickly covered up, and it did not become known outside the Corporation. During an internal investigation, Umbrella management discovered that after Ashford's death, the virus continued to exist within his body, replaced their dying host, reanimating dead cells and bringing him back to life...
The first zombie was born.
When Marcus found out about this, he was shocked. The virus he developed to save his daughter caused the horrific death of his old friend and colleague. After repeated studies, he discovered a problem: successful compatibility with the virus required an extremely rare type of DNA, which was available only in a tiny number of people. After that, he spent months in futile attempts to destroy his own invention, but this did not lead to anything. He wanted to quit then. Give up. But he couldn't and it hit him.
Of course, Alexandra learned about this as well. She needed to create a soldier then, one of her and Alicia's DNA. For this she secretly stole one of Alicia's healthy blood type samples from James Marcus' lab and returned to her own lab. Then she took one of her own eggs and began to work, making a healthy and immune fertile egg. She then returned to James Marcus' lab and quietly switched samples. Alex came back to her brother and stayed with him, keeping this secret between them alone.
In the aftermath, James Marcus argued furiously with the son of his late colleague and business partner, Alexander Ashford. Marcus now saw a direct threat in his own discovery and wished to destroy it. Ashford, on the other hand, was not at all opposed to profit on the virus, if not appropriate it at all, and continue his father's closed research. There was a deadlock.
"I don't care how much it cost. We have to close the research down. I already discussed this subject with Ozwell and he agrees with me."
"James, we gonna be ruined."
"My mind is made up."
"Pity"
Having received a signal from Ashford, Umbrella's mercenaries entered the laboratory where the quarrel took place. At the head of the detachment was a tall blond man in black glasses, who stood on their side and watched as the mercenaries took aim at Marcus.
"It's too bad you've been trusting the wrong people all this time, James. Just an hour ago, I had a conversation with Spencer... he's very interested in your research and the virus. He considers any attempts to close the program to be extremely inexpedient, and I completely agree with him... Fire."
Then Ashford took a step outside of the hard metal basement door and noticed Alicia poor hiding on the stairs.
"Go back to sleep, Alicia. Your father and I just talking. Go on." Alicia glares at him, Ashford smiled once again and she walks up to her room.
With the untimely death of Marcus meant that the course was set. As to honor Marcus wishes, Ozwell Spencer, now the owner of half the company shares, became Alicia's guardian until she came of age. To help him control the vast interest of the Umbrella Corporation, Ozwell Spencer created powerful Artificial Intelligence.
Spencer used the voice and likeness of Alicia Marcus for the computer interface and called the computer The Red Queen.
...Then, ten years ago in Raccoon City there was an outbreak.
The T-Virus, developed as a result of the appropriation of James Marcus' research, has entered the city from a secret underground laboratory. The American Government tried to contain the spread of the virus by detonating a bomb, but it only destroyed Raccoon City. The infection remained in the air.
The viral outbreak spread across the world within mouths. Humankind has lost.
Finally, the last hope of humanity gathered and took a last stand in Washington D.C.
My name is Albert Wesker.
And this is my story.
The end... of my Story.
