I'm not a pessimist

I'm not a pessimist,

I'm just a realist,

Why weave a house of lies

and dwell within it,

until it drains

all life from my veins?

Oh wait! It has.

I'm not a pessimist,

I simply understand

the weight of self-deceit.

So I choose truth with everyone.

Yes, dream boldly! But tread cautiously,

lest you soar too close to the sun—

we all know how that tale concludes.

I'm not a pessimist;

I can dance in optimism too,

lose myself in moments of joy—

after all, it's human nature.

I'm not a pessimist;

otherwise,

none of you

would linger in my life.

I'd drive you all away

because I've glimpsed

what happens once

you let people in.

I'm not a pessimist.
