Caleb ran on the grass, playing at the park. He smiled like he was the happiest kid in the world. He was always changing his location, first the slide, then the monkey bars, and now, he decided, the swings.
All the kindergarten classes were taking a field trip at the Townsville City park.
Caleb had reddish brown hair and brown eyes. He always cut his hair short, since it felt uncomfortable on his forehead. The little hair he had was constantly moving back and forth while he went higher and higher. There were others on the swings, too, but he wanted to swing the highest.
Caleb watched the other kids from high up. All of them looked like they were having so much fun. This had to be the best day ever.
Caleb was facing in a different direction from the street. The way he was sitting on the swing, he was facing the field, toward the other children. His back was to the street full of cars passing by.
Caleb smiled, laughing whenever someone told him they were going to swing higher than him. He swung higher and higher, trying to be the best.
That's when the deafening scream pierced his ears.
Caleb fell from the swing just as he was at the highest point, spraining his ankle. He screamed out, only to have it clouded away by the loud crashes and the high screeches of cars.
A single tear was all that was able to come out of Caleb's eye when a dark shadow suddenly appeared over him.
His death was instant.
