~Lilly Thatcher~
I sigh as I continue to walk around the flower shop as I am still unable to find the flowers I need. I thought roses were a popular flower but I can't find them anywhere. I'm trying to find a bouquet of roses and some baby's breath flowers to mix them in with but they're just not here anywhere.
I'm trying to find them as a gift for one of the kind ladies at the nursing home where I volunteer regularly. Roses are her favorite and I really wanted to get her some. I found the baby's breath, but not the roses yet.
Turning around, I spot a worker and walk over to her, "Hi," I say, making her turn, "I'm looking for the roses, but I can't seem to find them." I tell her, smiling so as not to seem rude. It is unbelievable all the stories I hear of customers being so rude to workers while they are just trying to make a living and I don't want to be like that.
She nods at me, smiling. "They're all the way in the back, we have a ton and in different colors. Follow me?" she suggests. I nod and she begins to walk to the back of the store. She takes me all the way to the back to this doorway that is closed with a curtain. She slides it open and leads me into a room filled with even more flowers, the roses on full display, in all sorts of colors. "Any specific color?" she asks me.
"Maybe pink," I tell her. We walk over to the pink roses and she helps me look through them before grabbing a bouquet and handing it to me.
"This is probably the best we're going to find," she tells me. We go back out and she takes me to the cash register. "The baby's breath too?" she asks me.
I nod, suddenly remembering it is in my hands and place it on the counter. I pay for the flowers and thank her, heading out of the store.
I make a left turn to head towards the parking lot. I'm borrowing my best friend, Paris' car for the day and I am going to have to arrange these in the car, but I brought some ribbon with me and paper so hopefully they'll turn out okay.
As I make the turn, I bump into someone, making both of us stumble back a few steps. It kind of hurt. I really need to look up instead of at the ground. When I do look up, I recognize the man. I'm pretty sure he's in one of my classes.
He looks at me with a glare. "I'm so sorry, I wasn't-" I begin to apologize, feeling bad for not paying attention, but he interrupts me.
"It's okay just pay attention when you walk," he replies, sounding uninterested in even speaking to me, and very grumpy just like the expression on his face.
I nod, smiling awkwardly and walking past him, hoping to not let the moment linger in my mind for the rest of the day. I make my way to the car and get into the driver's seat, placing both bouquets of flowers on my lap.
I somehow manage to arrange the flowers and they end up looking very pretty, tied together with a ribbon. I drive over to the nursing home and walk in, checking in with the man at the front desk before he allows me to go to Mrs. Kershaw's room.
I met her in the library one day when I was volunteering here and she was super nice. She told me that the only person that visits her is her grandson but besides that she has no one else so I started visiting her a lot. I study when I'm with her, we talk, we listen to music.
Getting to her room, I knock first before opening it to find her watching the television. "Lilly!" she says excitedly, reaching for the remote.
"Hi Mrs. Kershaw," I say, hugging her before handing her the flowers. "For you." I say, smiling at her.
